been having one of those days
minor irritants
silly emails
annoying conversations
my blender packs it in
in a spectacular display of soymilk all over the place
the dvd player is dead thanks to scarlet forcing it open n closed
ive lost my glasses...you know the old crooked ones
the ones i wear now are blurred
i had an eye exam
i need blah blah blah lenses at twice the cost
a massive electricity bill arrives
i have things to do but i cant get em done
i look at my unfinished painting ruefully
got no mojo to start
and i need to start....
my ears ring
my right eye like fuzz
ive become very attracted to watching larry davids show
curb your enthusiasm
i know its been out a while
but im a philistine when it comes to comedy i guess
i just accidentally watched some in sweden n i got hooked
he reminds me of me
all those molehills turning into mountains
everything getting harder cos you wanted easier
white lies turn into black holes
a chance stupid remark gets amplified
ridiculous unlikely combinations of events seem to frame you
you bang yer head
you stub yer toes
people misunderstanding when you trying to be funny
and you trying to be funny to much too hard
and nobody understands ya
and you dont understand nobody else
everybody ready to blame ya or get angry
good old larry david
his young wife even has a vague resemblance to nk
larry should be happy but everything kinda goes predictably wrong
im even starting to talk like larry
i mean do ya think i'm a schmuck, c'mon!
and yet
theres gotta be a moral
theres gotta be an answer
where is that smooth life larry should have...?
why cant everything just work out.....it should do...?
theres a reason this show is so incredibly funny
theres a deep lesson of life to be learned here...
for us larry david types
the ones always ruffling feathers and getting embarrassed
the ones who dont know where to draw the line...
the ones who act like a real goose even tho theyre ostensibly "clever"
surely the answer is close at hand if not already apparent...
in the meantime i watch larry negotiate every hurdle
with his usual bad luck n bad timing
he resists the universe at every turn even if only subtly
his life should be a breeze
but hes so caught up in it all
he cant see the fucking wood for the trees
we spend all our life fussing n fighting my friend
wow its hard to count your blessings
many a guy says to me
wow! they voted your song the best of all time n space...
how you feel now, maaan?
i say
its like an icon i'm dragging into my i-tunes or something
and the icon just refuses to be there
just flies back to its original spot
thats how stuff like that is to me
i cant appreciate it
i can see but cant count all my blessings
some of which are blessings in disguise..
yeah i really love watching curb yer enthusiasm
watch it and think of me
only a bit more hair
not so jewish
a beard
with aussie accent
not nearly as wealthy
and with kids
other than that you got a kilb-ish thing
go!

Yes!!! Curb Your Enthusiasm is the only modern show I watch and Larry David is my long lost twin brother. Go rent each and every season of the show and you won't be disappointed. Larry's manager Jeff's wife Susie is the best. There is no one who can shout as well as Susie and wait'll you see the episode called "The Doll" during Season 2. Oh my goodness...you'll see what I mean when you watch it. Brilliant!
Larry David is hilariously relatable for me as well. Were you a Seinfeld fan? Anyway, just wanted to say that I absolutely adore the videos you post here. Your voice is so soothing. I could listen to it all day, be it singing or speaking.
larry david's show makes me cringe!
Catching up from yesterday...don't get to check in everyday like I used to.
Firstly, re: yesterday's blog....I have my own little Aspy at home and I'm really grateful to you for making a donation to the cause.
I've spoken on this blog before about her...I've never had my heart twisted in so many different ways. She drives me nuts but I love her to distraction. I don't know what will happen to her in her life but I know I'll be there, she's my best friend. I grow misty just typing this...
My hat goes off to all the parents of profoundly autistic kids...what a journey.
Enough. Thanks old chap.

and if you really want a good hearty laugh..............
check this out!

killer as a moomin!!!!!!!!!!
I can't watch Curb - after 5 minutes I've got my fist in my mouth as you see the chasms opening - and after 10 mins its just too painful, too excruciating.
Curb Your Enthusiasm is Russell Mael from Sparks favourite tv show.
So now you know.
wow i was just watchin larry, geez how odd /God
wow i was just watchin some larry, geez.......?
lily 6.17 - this is why Steve should try to get voiceover work for tv documentaries, etc.
Easy money.
wow just watchin larry myself now,how odd is that?
dunno, always had a soft spot for english humour.....kind of a mixture of dry understatement and dry wit and occasional gallows humour.....
love always....
yeah right, dry, very dry....ugh...
Hey Steve, you mentioned in the past at least ten times that George Bush was a war criminal and even compared to Hitler. Obama has ramped up war in Afghanistan and people are dying (both soldiers and innocent civilians). How come no outcry by you and the anti-war crowd? A bit of hypocrisy, eh?
My specialty is congratulating non-pregnant women on their pregnancy
I say 'specialty' because I've managed to do it twice.
And one of those times (in true Larry David fashion) I tried pathetically to talk my way out of it.
When you're in a hole you gotta stop digging.
Really? I'm suprised! Its funny on some levels, but way too Jewish for me. Anyway each to his own (as in the show). I reckon Marty would have to be more of Black Books kinda guy- now thats a funny show or maybe the Mighty Boosh.
Great show, indeed. This guy Larry is brilliant.
ps. “The dvd player is dead thanks to scarlet forcing it open n closed”. Apparently, we have an international issue here. Just change the kid's name.
You suck!
The prevues for the upcoming Season look insanely funny. Last season was one of the best I thought.
Always brighter on the other side eh Orpheus?
try "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia"
truly hysterical and wrong on so many levels.
Also, saw a band last might you might enjoy called Phantogram. A bit Cocteau Twins-ish with decent beats. http://www.myspace.com/phantogram
I am kind of fascinated by watching bands these days who do everything electronic and use their iPods as backing instruments. Panther is really good for that. I can't figure out if it's lazy or a brilliant move.
with love,
M
asher killed our dvd player too... same thing, forcing it open and closed. kinda happy though... i don't have to watch the wiggles anymore.
The time Larry put a bottle of cola in his trouser pocket and then a friend's little girl went up to him for a hug - and she pulled back, saying loudly that "Larry hugged me and now he's got something hard in his pants"...
We all have days, (sometimes weeks) like this SK, but hey, don't you know men aren't good at multi-tasking? That's why God created woman!
Surely you must known that Scarlet would have an inquisitive mind? it's in the genes. May be she was thinking: look what I can do; and I don't even need the remote control to do it!
There are two similarities between you and Larry David, (the person, not the character) though. The first is that you are both true to yourself, and the second is that he too is a really interesting person. However, I somehow couldn't imagine you selling bras at the age of 23, which is what Larry was doing!
Larry David, hmm, my wife says that she thinks you look (and somehow act like) a thinner version of Ricky Gervais.
I’ve heard of that show but never watched it.
I did watch Seinfeld in the past and thought it hilarious.
Hang in there :-)
We all have bad days, in fact I'm in the middle of one but i know it won't last, never does. Nothing lasts, not the good or the bad...just gotta roll with it... whatever life throws at ya.
I detested Seinfeld but absolutely love Curb Your Enthusiasm. His long suffering wife is brilliant. Kind of like the Office but with the main character being a lot more likable.

Yes, indeed funny stuff. I LOVE Seinfeld too. If you've never given that show a shot, I believe you could dig it too. I imagine you will get a hoot out of "George Costanza"!! It really is a great show. Very smart...another Larry David baby.
Glad to hear about your new discovery! :) Enjoy it!
Lots o' P&L,
Ben
I do not like comedy shows. There are at minimum 30 Church songs better than under the milky way. I saw the heartbreaking film documentary "The Cove" that had graphic video footage of Japanese sadists spearing, lacerating, stabbing and beating screaming dolphins to death as the majestic marine mammals painfully perish in a sea of there own blood. The human race sucks and I'm a memember of it. I like Jim Beam and Bryan May- guitarist for Queen.
Kids playfully destroy technology.
They're onto something methinks.
The bdp-83 oppo dvd/blu ray player
has awesome picture quality.
you can buy a zone free version in oz through
www.merlinaudiodesign.com.au
They also have a much cheaper
oppo dvd player that's awesome too,
if you just want to play dvds.
"i had an eye exam
i need blah blah blah lenses at twice the cost"
Ugh! I need to get my eyes tested and get new glasses, but I keep putting it off because it's so damned expensive. I have bad enough vision that I have to get the high powered lenses -- that's an extra charge. Because high powered lenses in the regular lens material is so thick and heavy, I have to get the super-duper extra thin lens material -- that's an extra charge. Because the lenses are still very thick on the edges (even with the super-duper thin material), I have to get the edges rounded and polished so there isn't a half inch thick rim of frosted plastic all the way around (it's kind of like looking through a tunnel if I don't do it. Plus it's ugly as hell and the edges cut into my face) -- of course, that's an extra charge too. And now to add insult to injury, I'm old enough that I'm going to need bifocals. Yet another extra charge. Yippee.
I did try discount places a couple of times, but it's really not much of a discount if the fuckers fuck up the prescription and then tell me I just need to get used to the glasses and refuse to take the fuckers back and either do it correctly or give me a refund. I've worn glasses every fucking day for over 40 years -- I know within 30 seconds of putting them on if I'll get used to them or if the fucking prescription is wrong -- don't even try to give me that "you just have to take some time to get used to them" crap sweetie.
uhoh...that was a bit more of a rant than I thought it was going to be. Felt good to bitch about it though. :D
"a massive electricity bill arrives"
Oh joy! I got two this month -- one for my new place and one for the old place. The bill for the old place is the largest bill I've had in the past 12 months, even though no one was living there the entire month and no A/C, very few lights (and only occasionally even then) and no appliances were being used. Something isn't right there.... I'm still working on figuring that out.
Curb Your Enthusiasm has always seemed like a show I'd like, but alas, it's on HBO and I just can't bring myself to pay to watch tv.
watched snippets on utube to get a taste...saw two clips, one about the C word unleashed at a poker game...and one about some grand opening where a tirade of abuse flows out in a snowball like manner!! not bad, not bad at all...its got me intrigued...watching 2 minutes of abuse on utube does not necessarily give one a true idea of what the show is like im sure but nonetheless, Im intrigued and wanting a little more! cheers ...
Greedy
Oh come on, don't throw the whole sk myth out the window for us sk, there's definitely more to you than that dork...isn't there? :)))
Hope you're having a better day today,
love Amanda
I'm amazed at the distance between your blog entries and the ecstasy I get from your music. Not knocking either, as I understand the intent of each medium. Saw you in Missoula, MT in, like 1988 or '89. Rumor has it that was yr first gig in the States. True? Saw you again in SF recently and agree with yr assessment, though you must know that it was still a thrill for us.
Thanks for your wide-eyed wonder and honest thoughts both musically & bloggily. Truly,
Dean V.

PS: Not a parent (gay and fancy free as it were) so can't fully comprehend yr concerns, but yr good books to me. Thanks, Mr. Kilbey.
I love Curb...Larry David was the best thing about Sienfeld, i hear the whole cast re-unites on Curb this coming season. I love the old episode where he gets a pubic hair caught in his throat and has a fight with joseph and burns down the live nativity scene.

Best television show ever!
Havent seen that show. Im a Black Books kind of girl. Its not available to us anyway so I'll have to youtube it.
Sue xoxox
ps darn blessings in disguise, you'd think they'd come out of the closet by now.
Ya know Steve, funny you mentioned Larry David's show Curbe Your Enthusiasm, because i just recently got turned on by that show too, before i hated it or didn't like it, but last year or so I started liking it, because as you said it's something you can relate to, same here.
I know there are good and bad days, but enjoy the good ones and shrug off the bad ones if you can...that's my motto.
Cheers!
