There's some off the top of yer head stream of unconsciousness words for you. Just finished listening to the REFO:MATION album that I bought at the Seattle show. Dreamy, weird dark horse. The necessary stepping stone from your old work to the new phase. Love it.

Wow, what incredibly gorgeous young women.

Getting transfixed by So Love May Find Us. Something wonderful is happening between the notes, something primal and breezy. Loved it so much I'm buying a vinyl copy and a new turntable. Must dig out my old copies of Remindlessness, Earthed, Unearthed and The Slow Crack.

They are both truly stunning girls. Lucky young Craig's not with you! My sister has boy/girl twins, both so different yet so alike.

From your descriptions, Sweden sounds like an artist's paradise.

ps two scarlets, that would be funny... from our point of view :) Even funnier, imagine two steves!

oh yes
as only true artistes do

my grandad was an artiste
of the painterly kind
he had no monetary wealth
but pursued his craft
we are enriched with his works
and enriched with his dna (maybe)

and I am slowly travelling the same path
with fambly in tow
pursuing my craft
in words
in art
and some music

(my fambly in tow
is four young 'uns
a singleton
and triplets
plus a wonderful partner)

multiples are fascinating
a home grown case study
of development
of growth
of nurturing

oh you lucky man!
two sets of twins
and more daughters galore
a lovely wife
you are a rich man

yeah, sweden. such a beautiful place in summer. stockholm's a lovely city. the islands, the smell of the water, the beautiful girls everywhere you look. fi faan!

speaking of bergman, watching him tonight actually. fanny and alexander.

i always really liked wild strawberries (both the fruit and the film, come to think of it). Bout the old man looking back on his past. How the person he was in childhood didn't at all reflect the crusty old prick he'd become in his day to day life. How, somewhere along the way it all went wrong, and he forgot himself, forgot his childhood dreams, somehow forgot that childhood outlook and became the cardboard cutout "adult" we're supposed to be, that hollow shell of a stereotype. such a great film.

Love the green and blue photo; very Warholian and 60's. You do have a certain talent for twin girls - beautiful ones at that.

Ah, warms my heart to see a Refo:Mation mention. Phamakoi is one of the best albums EVER,bar none. I love every track. It's f-ckin' brilliant.

Sweden - would love to visit. I'll bet it's beautiful there in Autumn. Just got back from the beautiful Misty Mountains of Appalatchia - seeking redemption on the river, listening to Les Church on the drive home. Still flashing back to the magic generated at The Ridgefield Theatre.

Best Always,
JJ

Both those girls should be super(duper)models...why not??? imagine the fame, glamma, money$$$money$$$money$$$$$ their oz daddy becomes their superagent, makes 'em more money, pays off all his debts, buys himself a yacht, a mansion for all his offspring with a studio included for himself to dabble in, buy anything he wants....dreams can come true sk:))

Don't think I like the sound of Sweden, it sounds too perfect, too beautiful. What happens to the "not so perfect" peoples?, are they banished from the streets?... I'd look and feel like a short, darkhaired, darkeyed freak there, haha.......not my sort of holiday destination!!!

Have fun,
love Amanda

Jesus, Kilbey, you don't deserve those beautiful sparks you've caught/created. Or maybe you do. You're the most honest artist we know. Nobody lays it bare like you do. Nobody would confess the shit you have. And though we wish you were living in Kubla Khan (sic) because, in a perfect world you should be (philospher king etc) it makes you more special because you're just like us (poor etc). So I salute you, Kilbey, and I thank you. Because you're brilliant and you're real and because you tell it like it is.

Oh love this blog Steve, so colourful and entertaining. Stunning girls, they look like prettier versions of daddy when he was young. I always get a good laugh when you characterise the Woofle, the little darling! Natalie thanks for showing your beautiful face, nothing wrong with a little makeup, its a very feminine thing. Hope this magnificent winter weather is still here to great you Steve. People up here swimming in the surf and sunbaking. Its been a very interesting journey for those less travelled to read the blogs. Thank you Steve for your diligence and its great to have the photos as well. Safe trip home, Linda x

Loved the beautiful serious scenic descriptions... I'm wondering SK - do you know the children's books by Finnish author Tove Jansson? Wow, if anyone can conjur Scandinavia with a dark intense melancholy beauty, she's the one. Gorgeously detailed ink illustrations to match... an inseparable & inspiring ingredient from my childhood.

Your twins are beautiful, Steve.

What a full life you have! Believe me, there are ALOT of people who would gladly trade in their mind-numbing 9-5 existence to do what you're doing.

Thanks for another stellar post and enjoy the rest of your stay in Sweden.

Yep, you certainly are a lucky man, brother. ALL your girls are beautiful! Seriously, how cool is that...having TWO sets of identical twins!!? That really is pretty wild.

Hey, just something kind of funny: Let me say first of all that I hope you see the humour in this!! :)

So, yesterday I rolled on over to my local CVS (drug store) to pick up a few things. It just so happened that I was wearing a Church T-shirt. It is the one with all the album covers (pre-U23). So, as I'm at the register getting ready to pay, the clerk (really sweet girl btw, names Bernice) says all ecstatically, "WOW!! You got on an "80s" T-shirt!! COOL!!" I just CRINGED as the words came out of her mouth and retaliated with, "80s T-shirt???! No, NO...these guys are most certainly NOT just an '80s band'. They are a band that just so happened to have their biggest hit in the 80s, but that in no WAY means that they are 'an 80s band'. They have been fully functioning for 30 FREAKING YEARS!" Anyway, she must have sensed my "defensiveness" and responded, "Well, NO, I, I, I ddidn't mmmean that they are JUST an 80s band! I REALLY LIKE THEM though!" Then said "What was that 'big hit song' of theirs...something about...BEING ON MARS or something!! (I just burst out laughing!) It really was a special moment! Then I corrected her of course, and pointed to the little square of "Starfish" on my shirt and told her that was the record, etc..." It was quite cute of her actually. Like I said, she is very sweet...simple, but very sweet. Hey, she did say she liked "that band." So I added a brief "catch-up" of the band and that you are still very much active and the music is more prolific than ever, etc. Anyway, it was pretty funny and yet another classic example of the "ignorance" of the general masses. She just didn't have a clue. As much as I hate when that happens, I also have to LOVE those moments in a way because it does give me a chance to talk about you guys and HOPEFULLY promote you, etc. I actually find that quite a few people know of (or at least "remember") The Church. I mean it's great to be a part of this whole "big secret" and all, but on the other hand, I wish (for your benefit) that more people were somehow "enabled" or turned on to the likes of you and the band. Universe willing...

On another note, I talked to one of my dear friends Ally out in San Francisco yesterday and told her that I recently saw you guys etc, and she simply said, "Oh, I love those guys." :) I guess she was dating some bloke that used to know you guys (personally), etc. But I turned her on to you guys way back when. Anyway, I believe she will see about buying the book soon and hopefully invest in some of your tunes, etc.

Well, just thought I would share that experience with yas. Anyway, I hope you're havin' a great time in Sweden with your twillies.:) Cheers to you and the fam, Steve.

P&L to all,

Ben

Hellbound Heart -- A.Kite is correct (about the contacting me...I'm not always so sure about the thoroughly reasonable bat.... ;-) ). Email me at hejstudio (at) gmail (dot) com and I'll give you the info for sending payment.

Same deal applies to others -- although PayPal is easier, I can sometimes accept alternate forms of payment. If you can't use PayPal, but want to order something from the SK Art site, just drop me an email and we can most likely work something out.

Steve, I posted this on hotelwomb yesterday:
----------------------------------
Saw & hung out with Alan Parsons at Rams Head and mentioned The Church to him.

I'll keep pushin The Church on everyone.

The Alan Parsons Project played at The Rams Head in Annapolis, MD, tonight, 3 weeks after The Church played there (and there were 6 members on that tiny stage image.

I met Alan at the bar afterward and asked him if there's anyone who excites him today. After mentioning "his wife", he said Coldplay...................let that sink in for a bit.....................this is the producer of Pink Floyd's "Dark Side Of The Moon", The Beatles "Abbey Road", Al Stewart's "Year Of The Cat", amongst others...................COLDPLAY..................... Not to rag on him too much for that, as he was a pretty cool dude and they put on a good show, but coldplay ?

I asked him if he had heard of The Church and he said no, but when I described their sound and mentioned their longevity, he was intrigued. He gave me his email address and I sent him info on the band, the good reviews of Untitled #23, a place to listen to the new album, etc.

There were others who knew who I was talking about, but only from Starfish, and were blown away when I said they had just played at this exact place 19 days ago. I told them the band never stopped recording and to go out and give Untitled #23 a listen, and then get the rest of the back catalog since 1992 (I figured Alan Parsons Project is somewhat atmospheric, and conceptual, etc, and isn't too great a leap from The Church's general sound -- hell, I was there

PS, I also mentioned The Church to Andy Williams and Jimi Goodwin of The Doves outside the 9:30 Club in Washington DC in early June. Their eyes lit up when I mentioned The Church.

richie24u2 said...

Coldplay? Christ, talk about drinkers of shit!

I'll take SK and our beloved Choich any day over that overrated douchebag Chris Martin!

Parsons needs to remove his head from his ass promotly and spin U#23 for some REAL artistry!

Just read the RANT...can you tell?

Ben i loved your story. And I thought 'I' was the expert on introducing the church into any conversation with strangers.
