i get to bed circa 430 in morning
i wake up at 7 n cant go back to sleep
i do yoga
n we drive to sf
too many people here now to write anymore

must do interview

have massive blisters on my fingers which got soft
and bass strings rip my flesh
you need calluses n i lost mine
each pluck i silently say fuck
gonna have to try something like methylated spirits
but no one in the states knows what that is
it turns blisters into calluses
or that liquid bandage goop
i should try my wonder gizmo on it
yes we did do an i/view with hustler
it aint no joke

Crazy glue, super glue -- any brand of glue that is made of cyanoacrylate is a pretty decent substitute for callouses if you are in a pinch. Just spread it around where you want a callous to be, blow on it, and voila. You'll have to reapply every couple of songs or so, but it dries in seconds, so you can do it will talking at the hoi polloi.
Carfeully dehydrating your fingertips with a lighter (off on off on) can make for hardened skin -- but the potential risks make it a gamble.
And on an unrelated note, I've been offered a series of gigs on the noose-talgia circuit. I don't need the money, but sadly I need the attention. Feels like a sell out...
We'll see. Being out of the spotligght is very, very cold.

gonna watch the kcrw thing in the morning...look forward to it. the shows will get better and better i'm sure...so will your fingers. even when you guys feel you may not be transcending, i'm sure the audience thought you were great. it's that intangible something that takes it to another level (vibe...whatever you want to call it)...you'll be there soon, and everyone will walk away going that's was the best show ever!

Steve, my Dad was a bassist- he used plain old first aid adhesive tape. Don't know if that helps...
Also, that 'New Skin' is very good. I have used it for a lot of things. Cellist friends of mine from a mutual cello board I go to swear by it. Best to you- glad to see you all in the US!

Spirits are not methylated in the US. Isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) can be had for 99c in the drug store. Have you tried superglue for hardening your fingerpads? Enjoy San Francisco.

Your standards are just too high. I have seen the band in 5 differnet countries and can only rememer one concert I enjoyed better than last night. The Blurred crusade was so damned powerful.. as the barman at the Roxy said some old bands stand there and wait to be praised..these guys f@+ken deliver. I took my teenagers who have listened to many a church song and they requested to see you againg when next you grace our shores.

Saw the Morning Becomes Eclectic gig today. That was fantastic. "You Took" in particular transcended, but the whole show was great and funny too.

Sing sing a song sing out loud sing out long. Your words are sprinkled with the aura of song already in them. Living off the rush of life on the road...there is a nice excitement in your voice. The yoga practice is the best guiding force especially when we are a little off the rails.

Well - I'm surprised the roof at Slim's is intact! The set you delivered was a testament to ROCK! Two and a half hours! So grateful I had the stage to lean or I would have never made it.

Thanks for the great show Steve! I was near the front most of the time... You project an amazing intensity, almost combative. Thank you for the stellar performance. SF really does love you. Peter Koppes was on top of his game with mesmerizing guitar work. Marty and Tim are fabulous too. Would like to hear more... My only wish is for a week long run of the church with different set lists each night... Your catalog is so prodigious. Good luck with the rest of the tour.

props on his drumming AND singing.
On those blisters I know of a
remedy that drummers and baseball
players use but it's sorta gross,
you have to pee on your blisters.
It does dry and toughen them up.

The kcrw show was forking amazing!!! what a performance! you guys just built it and built it, and then shrugged it off in the end like it was all routine.
i was a bit surprised by the interviewer. I expected him to be flattened by your rendition of You Took. When i saw his reaction i thought "that was it????"
