oh my little pig
you read my words
you see thru my eyes
the venerable olde blurry eyes
kilbeys back n hes playing a new role
at the arse end of his life
transformed by yoga and veganism
and BY THE GRACE OF GOD!
hes now an agile looselimbed goose
plucking his bassy bass
lunging and thrusting
his impeccably muscled legs
veterans of thousands of laps
and thousands of asanas
his husky olde voice stronger and truer
his words honed down
his band play like champions
he appears in falls church theatre
theres about 400 ish
and the olde killer is happy
the music comes down
the band lift off
he cant describe it
the audience is a beauty
warm n enthusiastic
vocal in the right parts
quiet in the right parts
we join up the band n audience
and the churches journey begins
trawling thru wrecked lives
and impossible futures
and broken hearted romeos
and dirty horny devils
and futuristic pasts
and timeless distances
and unspeakable things
things of great wonder
and irony and contempt
and loads of wide eyed fourth form naivete
and drugs and withdrawals and stoned reveries
and voyages into the unknown and just untold
and greek hits n myths and romans and west virginian women
and stupid junkies and crone-like infants
and all the rest of the mess
that i shook outta my pure bread brain
yeah i am a transformer
i transform our thoughts into songs...
could anyone else have done it?
i am exploring this place
where few others have the wherewithal to go
yoga shows me the way
music enables me
i want to dance
i want to play
i want to sing
i want to show off
i want to smile
look universe
i'm trying to learn my lesson
thank you for my many chances ( given happenstances)
its a drag being me
its exciting being me
cant help feeling i am not me tho
then who am i
i am someone else sublimated in this thing sk
ooh its exciting isnt it children
olde sk has now shown you
that yoga and swimming and veganism (almost)
will reshape ya
i got 38 year olde guys asking me for advice
man some of ya are digging yer own graves
listen to me believe me
if you want the results put in that time
craigie milla i'm so proud of you my son
you already got a couple a weeks down
keep going
in one year
you will feel ten years younger
I FUCKING GUARANTEE IT!
you will also handle everything with more aplomb
should you need to jump a fence or climb up a tree
or surf a wave or stand in a queue
or deal with nitwits
or play with children
or love your sweet lady
whatever it is
yoga + veg + exercise
yeah i know you know
its hard at first to abstain from things youve liked
things you grew up believing were good things
its hard to stand in awkward poses
its hard to get yer arse out there n exercising
YOU DONT THINK I KNOW...
look this is the only answer i have :
we have all pursued the bad stuff diligently
be it beer or chocolate or smack...whatever..
insert nemesis here
now pursue good things diligently
say to yourself
FUCK IT ALL (>>>>>>)
insert your name here
i am gonna do yoga today
whether its hot cold or friggin' hailing
i'm gonna go swimming whether the waters boiling
or solid frickin' ice
i'm gonna do yoga regardless of whatever anyone else thinks
and then you simply
program ANY deviation outta the equation
no exceptions...hey you...i mean
NO EXCEPTIONS
you dont miss yoga cos its yer birthday
or cos you got a headache
or cos pete n dorothy coming over later
you dont miss yer exercise cos it looks bleak outside
and once a veg
you never ever ever eat a deadish thing again
not for fucking anyone or anything
its just how you are now hard wired
then
persevere
then
watch the weight drop off
and
feel better (about yourself)
then
cosmic awakening
then
power joy accomplishment gracefulness art music
then
more yoga
more exercise
less eating
more fruit more nuts more raw alkaline food
more kindness
more mercy
more understanding
suddenly people are attracted to you
a strange magnetism that those who practice yoga have
they become magicians
able to perform almost impossible feats
they become slinky feline
they insinuate themselves through the world like cats
they pick up on their intuition
their clairvoyance
their gestalt with others
this is a kind of magic
why dont you believe me
please dont eat one more dead thing
its making you die in tiny ways every time
you eat these poor miserable rotting bits n pieces
mutilated corpses burnt n warmed up
sad creatures we didnt love
how can we then love ourselves?
how may love find us?
so thats my secret thats no secret
i believe there are many "ins"
mine is not the only path
but it has worked for me
it is the one i know
tune in yer soul n mind n body
synch em up
you dont have to be out of touch
thats my advice
now i'm in annapolis
in a lovely hotel
where i have twice stayed with my wife
i wish she was 'ere right now
because i have a nice room with a tree-ey view
muted hushed comfy room
a night off
soft king sized bed
low lighting...
me n tim drift round
do our laundry
have veg burger at waterfront
american servings so big
i now only eat half
oh...i wanna eat the other half...kinda...
but its just too much for me
i need just enough fuel to maintain my machine
it runs much better on empty than full
it likes chlorophyll
it likes fiji water
it likes fruit smoothies
it likes hummous
it likes to have a rest too
anyway
wow
what a rant
thanks to my friends from N.C.
who gave me some muggles
anyways
i leave me here
sitting in a warm pleasant hotel room
5th floor
steve roaches dream circle plays on my i box doo dah
the yoga mat is unfurled
i will sink into my poses
my mind will quiten
my soul will sigh with pleasure
my body may rebel or enjoy
but i will not sway from my routine
all my love
and good luck with the changes

Thanks Steve. I really appreciate the encouragement. Today is Day 11 of veggie-ness, and Yoga lesson No. 1 scheduled for this Thursday at 5PM at Solar Yoga, right down the street from my place.
http://www.solar-yoga.com/
My wife has been going along for the ride on the veggie diet, and she's really enjoying it too and talking about never going back. It's amazing how quickly your taste changes. Everything tastes different, and better already.
On the downside, I just found out I'm going to LA instead of New York for work and won't be able to make the Irving Plaza show. But, I'm actually going to be in Sydney shooting some TV spots in late July for a week, so I'll keep an eye on the site to see if any impromptu gigs are afoot.
steve,
i enjoyed the show last night... i was there in the front... remember me? i was the one clapping. my first real church experience... so many secrets revealed while new mysteries emereged... i saw you at xm in 2006... friends with a dj got me in to the studio control room... we watched you play a john cale song? on the piano and listened to you play providence... apt title. although it looked like you were just "fiddlin'" around, you weren't... you were mining somewhere invisible i suppose. looking forward to tomrrow night... if you look you'll see me, i'll be the one clapping and smiling...
grimm
you are in my hometown. thanks for coming!
great show last night. i'm glad you are getting a night off.
Rather, the Church's journey begins. After all, there's only ONE Church.

Steve perhaps I should try to morph TM into Yoga. I do have to ask though how do you get jazzed and not get the munchies?
Tranquility is a great song on Bastard Universe among others.
I'm going to add Louisiana to my wife and my song list...perhaps add some dobro hope thats OK with you.
inspiring stuff indeed. a vegan friend of mine says not to eat mushrooms, any thoughts?
preach on white hippy moses...thanks for your words and time.
take care
mark
SK, you are really inspiring me this time to get healthy. I've already started a diet.... Flat Belly Diet; it seems to be working slowly....gave up red meat now. Eat more seeds...yeah! I'm trying to give yoga another try. You make it sound like it's all possible. Listened to Gilt Trip as I go through the poses, trying not to fall over...he he.
How about posting a pic of your wife, lucky lady that she is. It's got to be hard waiting for your return. Enjoy the room with a view; know that you have many who care for you...you'll be back down under soon.
...and yet you won't give up the herb.
I admire you Sk. Your implacable will and your constructive mania are laudable. I only surpass you in compassion for animals even though you're also right on their side too. People like you and the thin and muscular vegetarian 65 year old Jeff Beck are amazing. He's blazing through the UK with rave reviews while you're doing the same in the States.
By the way your hero Barack Obama eats foie gras. YUK ! The only veggie politicians are in India.
ahhh hummous, i love the stuff, wish i was there to make u some real egyptian hummous, sorry thats the egyptian in me talking lol, or if u even like baba ganoush, good stuff, anyways now im making myself hungry, you need to get some rest, im glad you are staying in a nice hotel, real comfy one at that! stay nice and cool, its hot out there!
mary
You're in my neck of the woods this evening,
glad to hear that your having some much needed and deserved down time
will be seeing you at the Ram's Head tomorrow
happy to hear the Falls Church show went so well, hopefully the annapolis crowd will be as enthusiastic
Have a good night!
Renee
Well you may be right about yoga
Every person can find their own physical means of acheiving fitness and equilibrium
Before you get all ranty about it
what about some further description of these strange locations you are in??
And dont forget to sleep!!
Remember the place that you went to when last you adored (live)
by thousands (or even hundreds)
Dont forget to get over it
somewhat
Love
Jen
OK, I've gone and done it.
I've booked into 2 beginner classes a week at the 'Yoga Nook' in Dulwich Hill.
They do Iyengar yoga.
I will give it a year. I have bought the ticket now will take the ride. I've told them about the 'SK yoga gaurantee' and they are sure they can deliver!

Steve,
I am a beliver, after seeing your energy at the show in Detroit. How could anyone not see that it is truly working for you. I have been vegan about a year now and trust me I have so much more energy now at 36 than I had when I was 18. I have been doing yoga for about a month now on Wii fit, seems to be a good place to start. Anyway 400 crowd that is awesome, get home soon and be with your family I m sure you cant wait. Finish strong and please come back and see us in the USA next year for the 30th anniversary tour. Please remember you have nothing to prove to any of us, we would not be here if we did not belive in you, and in many cases a lot of us have listened/watched/read/ been inspred from you in one format or another for years. Get home safe and enjoy the last few weeks here in the US.
Jason
blessed man, blessed...
goodnight
curious to know your thoughts on how your cleveland show went...
tis...
...the reason u
endure
...the reason i
admire
oh wow jason, i forgot, i do have yoga on my wii fit, i could start with that, thanks for the reminder!!!
I have a question for you vegan/vegetarians: How do you get enough protein? I've been thinking about giving up meat, but am concerned about getting the sufficient quantities of protein (130-150g/d). A couple years ago, I lost ~50 lbs by following a high-protein, low-carb diet. Lots of fish, chicken, and veggies, plus moderate amts of fruit. Very little red meat, bread, or starchy vegetables like corn or potatoes. Reducing the carb intake agrees w/ my body in a huge way. How can I get enough protein without eating fish, chicken, or whey protein? All advice welcome...
SK,
I found Yoga during my first pregnancy at 28 weeks; being a runner, I couldn't give up exercising altogether. Practiced Prenatal Yoga 3x/week until the day my daughter was born. Twenty minutes of pushing and out she came. Since then, I've been practicing Ashtanga and in the last year, Bikram. Love the glistening bodies in the studio.
Just remembering when I first met you and the SK, today. Amazing transformation. You are indeed an inspiration.
"and good luck with the changes"
thank you.
"all my love"
and to you as well.
enjoy your evening off.
lotza love.....
I love being meatless, too!
Dissected pigs in high school anatomy class 25 years ago and never ate flesh again.
Able to raise 4 boys on a veg diet though I worry the lure of bacon will take them in once they hit legal age.
Saw you guys in Seattle.
Loved you guys in Seattle.
Remember that show sold out in advance so do come back!
give up the herb.you hypocrite.
In honor of Michael Jackson passing away, McDonald's is introducing the MJ Burger... 50 year old meat between 10 year old buns.
you hear what ther doin with MJ's body? ther meltn him down to legos so little kids can play with him.
hahaha
inspiring words.
you transcended last night. excellent show and looking forward to Annapolis
Matey, can this little pig enumerate its relative lot – take the quality control test, so to speak?
Vegetarian – I eat fish, but otherwise – a tick with a broccoli stem
Fitness Instructor – My second job is working as a [‘four more!’] group-fitness instructor for two hours (and three on Mondays), five days a week; and I spend over two hours per day on my days off running through the choreography for the different class types I teach – tick, kick, and tick again!
Yogi – one of the class types I instruct is yoga – tick, tickee babu, tick!
Agile and loose-limbed goose – I can do the side splits and all the advanced yoga poses, even in the dark – tick, kumkum, bindi, tick!
Singer – trained operatically, so I know a thing or two about the mechanics of singing. They don’t call me Trilby for nuthin’ – bars of ticks for trills and quavers
Musician – you bet! – subjective to ticks of all shapes and sizes
On the flip side – yes, there’s an ordination of infrangible flaws. How much time do you have?
MP
Correction: 'subject' not 'subjective'

Ha, that photo really doth make me laugh! This is my favourite pose and it's the one everyone always tells me to do for the camera as I do such a great stern look when I'm pointing my finger at someone. The Enforcer, I get called.
Everything you say about yoga and vegetarianism/veganism is true. Yoga, pilates, magic, meditation, the Uddhava Gita...they're all great paths.
Steve, you mention Steve Roaches' Dream Circle. It would be interesting to know what other music inspires you while doing yoga. I don't wanna listen to some cheesy stuff, so what might you recommend?

Hey Steve, Paul here (fed you strawberries outside The State Theater, pre-show :)
I just got back from the gym here at 2AM. You're right, no excuses ---> of course my excuse it's the one day off I have between 2 consecutive Church Concerts.
I incorporated some of things you were teaching (when you were "healing" my friend Chris's ailing back) using a medicine ball and incorporating it a bit into my weight lifting routine.
I hope I'm not in pain tomorrow :)
Seriously, you made our day.
A month without a ciggie is as good as it gets for this 33 year olde.
One step at a time.
picture with pineapple is gold!
Although, that might explain kuala lumpur incident...Hello?
good on ya, steve......
posted a comment last night but the internet ate it....when i saw last night's pic i thought 'maxwell smart'....tonight i think 'uncle sam needs YOU'...
am busting to get back into regular exercise but i haven't been able to for a week 'cos i've had yukky bronchitis (anyone ever seen somebody just about cough up a lung? and i don't even smoke....ciggies, that is)
love always......
thanks for the answer steve.
i belive....and will respond accordingly!
off to git some lentils now........
Hey, hi hi!
I'm digging your portraits and much motivational speaking on Yoga, Yogi. My Punjab/Mumbai friend I left in SF often says to pray to the east and splash a circular motion of water around yourself. The circle is the strongest symbolic structure as if you didn't know.
I've added some resistance training and posture therapy to my yoga routine (>>>) Insert you who walk with straight upright spine!! You look marvelous darling. Sometimes, I'm full inch taller and feeling younger without pains of bone spurs.
Anyway, I'm really loving every CD (5) I got from you in Seattle... what a fix.
Love Always,
Laurie G
oh, and a little PS
Don't forget the neck strengthening exercises!~

Steven you are inspiring. I will now start yoga - already swim every day in the warm Jakarta smog and mostly veg. It is the constant encouragment, keep it up good for us all. Love Tiny Tot
Awesome post. You just keep getting better. You are true inspiration. I should have gotten off my ass and driven to VA to see ya, like I did in '02. Sorry I didn't now. Oh well. I'm listening to all the records this week, old and new. This a.m., on the way to work, "Columbus". Great. Love you guys. Please come back to Atlanta some day.
now how about a small smile for the girls in the gallery?
B.Bon
So, how does one do yoga with an overly-excited one-year-old in the house?
Rock on SK...Rock ON!
Transformers are always very 'IN'
Loving the photos!

Not have you continually followed your heart music/art wise, but you have found your path so-to-speak health/fitness wise.
There's nothing like it!
You're absolutly right, Steve, when you say how much BETTER you look and feel when you get on the healthy path.
It breaks my heart when I see my fellow Americans literally killing themselves with the fork and knife. And the portions have become truly guarantuan! Advice to those struggling with portion control: split everything!
It's great to hear that you're hitting your stride on this tour!
LOL - great pic. You look like you just conquered something.
All that you say about yoga (or any worthy physical practice) is true. And for those who are thinking about starting out, it does get easier. You just have to push through that initial wall of resistance. Those first 2 or 3 sessions. They're the worst, because you're sweating out all that bad crap. But then the momentum builds, it takes on a life of its own, and you start to feel great.
The bad thing is, if you drop your practice for any reason you've gotta suffer through that adjustment phase all over again. (I experience that every time i come back from some sorta expedition and have to kick back into training mode, and its always awful) - so stick with it no matter what the day to day brings, just as the good druid says! It really will change your life.
I've said it before but i'll say it again. Proud of the work you've done SK. It's a fucking transformation. You've never looked or performed better, and your creative output has never been as prolific or as consistently brilliant. Truly well done. And I get the sense that you're just getting started.
Earthfriend,
Lots of ways to get non-animal protein: nuts (almonds, peanuts, cashews, etc.), beans (navy, white, black, etc.), lentils, tofu, soy, seitan.
Vegetables have a small amount of protein, too. Whole grain bread (the label MUST read 100% whole wheat) has some protein, too. I prefer wheat-free, sprouted grain -healthier choice.
That's it off the top of my head. Hope this helps!
Good on you for your metabolism. I've been practicing yoga my whole adult life. I agree, its the best thing I've ever done for myself. I exercise and eat well - fresh, organic, and stay away from the sweets. I have also tried to give up meat my whole adult life. When I (finally) did it three years ago I gained over 20 pounds and my energy level plummeted. I know all about protein and various meat substitutes. Its not the same. I am now incorporating some pastured beef back into my diet. My advice for anyone having trouble with this is to at least PLEASE avoid that factory farmed shit on the grocery store shelves. There are better sources out there. Eating LESS meat has a HUGE impact on the planet. Taking the all-or-nothing approach is why most people don't become vegetarians. We can't all be purists.
2 HOURS OF YOGA A DAY??? Good on ya SK! I am at 1/2 hour a day right now but I am a fat bastard and have a long way to go. but i know now that most of it is mental. you have to keep going even though initially results are measured on a very tiny scale. but all those inches eventually add up to miles until you get to where you want to be. THANK YOU for the encouragement!
signed,
still meatless in ontario
my mind will quieten
mi mente se calmara
my soul will sigh with pleasure
mi alma suspira con placer
I love that word: muggles and everything it means.
I don't think vegetarianism is the real point. It's about respect for life. So you have to drop eating that factory farmed stuff whether it's plant or animal. The Native Americans had the right idea of the hunt. You give reverence to the animal and it's spirit returns to the source in gratitude. And it's gonna happen to you to, so kill as you would wish to die, with honor. The least we can do is to honor the spirit of all we consume, whether plant, animal or mineral.
I read this backwards and it is still sense-full as it can be.
