man grove

deep n dirty
the wind burns
my eyes are wild
hurtling headlong
friction ripping off my layers
i re enter an atmosphere
i plunge downwards towards the end
i fall apart all over the place
look out now
when ya gonna learn
i achieve velocity with mere words
put the petal to the metal
i explode in your mind like a balm
i am all over the shop excuse me
i blast out my raquet in the omni friggin' present heat
i wobble before i pick up speed
i overheat so easily in the marshes
soon we are lost on the highway in :
trees wave limply in the still air
something slips into the water
every move brings more stalemate
i randomly string sentences together
and pretend its a blog
or a poem
or an impressionistick diary
barry came down the pool n punched my head in
dutch peter n lightfoot dragged him away
covered in my blood
barry slipped into the sea
he was immediately snapped up by a nasty sharky shark
which masticated him agonizingly
sorry bout the grin then
in my dream
im singing some song
in the heaty heat
and i
like
look out n there is my accountant david r
now a knight of the garter snake
and i think
i'm glad he gotta good seat then
and then
i wave my eyes around
i open my arms
good god....i'm ascending...thru out...
i twinkle
i hover
i disappear
properly
away from the hoi polloi
who couldnt dig my deep trip
in the swamp of my life
i flail i flounder
i tread on dangerous things
i put my hand in the wrong places
i trust my voice which whispers wordlessly
it says
only when youre dead
only
when
youre
dead
i enter samsara
check in here
the voice warns me guides me guards me
the voice in my head talks in a dead language
the voice in my head instructs me to do unspeakable things
the voice in my head keeps mentioning some stupid name
i begin to lose my temper down the long black hall
i imagine all the tiniest details of some room
i dont think ive ever been or wanna go
i turn on the radio and out jumps that voice again
the voice gives me addresses
it gives me messages from our beyond
from our far flung beyond over yonder
from some dead painter wanna use me
let me see
he says in some flemish cafe
as he counts out twenty ducats
the summer day has dazzled everyone here
we sit around languidly drinking n smoking
we celebrate the moon by strictly observed rites
kilbey types away
the painter has a sleep
the farmer grows his stuff
the dealer slings his bags
the singer sings things better left unsung
the junkie misses the vein
the driver misses the train
the lion misses the lamb
the lamb is jammed in a jamb
maybe it should ram
yeah i do my best
yeah i wander abroad
yeah i don a disguise
go amongst men as a beggar
please pay me for my bloggs
i shout feebly into the dust of caesars wanking chariot
i am whipped down by the mercenaries
who ride in empires wake
you dont know the half of it sunshine
kilbey has nearly had enough
time to close up shop
time to hunker down
time for private life
time for the trees that speak to me of their properties
time to muse on everything that ever happened to me
time to straighten it all out before i lay me down in slumber
leave me then
here
no where else to go
but wherever i want
but i dont believe it
not all the time

u gotta burn your hand, stub your toe and scramble your words across the page. Why take the easy well greased route? You learn nothing that way. You've taken the high road; road less travelled; wide and open to be explored. One cops your slings and arrows along the way. That's experience. One doesn't get that cloistered away in a moldy cellar comtemplating their navel. One lives life by pushing the envelope of ones creative abilities. You create a future for many to look into and travel along with. We support this venture with or without naggy naysayers of ill will and temprement. We welcome you.

Steve,

that was a lovely tribute to David McCombe. You, of all the singer/fronts, captured his desperate, passionate attack, so well, just a little garage punk, and so romantic, so honest, so sad and terrible and lonely and orchestrally warped in the band's arrangements of traditional instruments like violin, guitars. You got the raw, woody depth of David McComb's tone, ragged but something a little old fashioned there as well, courtly and humble, so masculine and sometimes almost nihilist maniacal rock'n'roll preacher as well. He was so charismatic and alive onstage; you gave us that as well. The Triffids still walk that line between radical and traditional so well. I always loved this band, but particularly seeing Jill Burt sing and perform, and her simple yet completely pivotal keyboards, make me realise even more how integral, so vital to the Triffids sound she was/is, especially in counterbalance to David on vocals. Her vocals are completely original I think. I love her phasing and lack of pretense. Raining Pleasure indeed.
Other highlights were Martyn's sinuous oomph on bass, Alsy's amazingly sparing devil may care, but I don't, Red Pony, a kind of Romanian suicide polka sung by Rob Snarski that is just a stupendous song and arrangement, Rob McComb on violin with Graham "Evil" Lee on pedal steel in combo on anything, whatsoever ...Lonely Stretch was particularly memorable to me, just frightening that visceral sense of fear of isolation. Thanks so much.

Hey SK - they're playing Sherbet n Mi-Sex (sp?) n God knows what else on "Rage" tonight... So, it's entertaining, amusing & pure nostalgia beamed direct off a slightly troubled 70s childhood in Brisbania, Aus! Well at least we always had the telly.....

hey nevets yeblik (which btw i just figured out that u reference in Outbound, yeah i'm a special kind of slow learner), please don't ever close up shop. We realize how lucky we are to have this amazing conduit between your private and public persona and yes, i think we would fret a little if we lost it. And Barry, yes fuck off if you think i'm being a pathetic suckup, i probably am, and i realize Steve would not give me the time of day in any normal situation, he obviously has too much going on, but he makes us feel special and listened to in this forum and obviously you feel it too or you wouldn't keep up your madness. Whatever grudge you have going with him, LET IT GO! You are quite a funny, astute individual, use your humour for good instead of evil, please. That's all i have to say. Become the change you want to see in the world people!!

Cute dream ;-)

Kilbey sounds tired.
Maybe Kilbey needs to rest for a bit and let lil’ Steven play.

don joe-

One might even say "you've got to grond it out", eh?

You're right about not learning anything if ya go the easy way... problem is, if you're cursed with an IQ above 140 or so (which I would guess are statiscally over-represented among Church/Kilbey fans), with enough years you start to get the "haven't I learned enough YET?!?!?!" syndrome. Cyncism is a bitch and a half to defeat. Old Killer loves to learn and is also sick to his back teeth with all this learning. It's all just maya, after all.

Anyow. I can't speak for the man -- or even the mansuit. These are just my inklings. He's in a rougher patch than most will be in -- and in a more pleasant one, too.

I think I'm getting it now (slow on the uptake, I am) SK, you have to sort through the dross and give the thumbs up or down to each comment before it pops up? Isn't Barry the Bad-ass Commenter going to just inundate you with drivel and white space (tempted as I am to look for the artistic statement in those white voids...) that you have to wade through? Seems an unsatisfactory solution and not worthy of the efforts required. Is there another way? Pete Pod?
