being asleep
being fast asleep
what is sleep?
can we define these simple things?
what is sleep
what is love
what is a song
what is life
the being sleeps his restless sleep
the tv flickers
its that movie
yeah you know the one from the last installment
in the previous episode
that film about this blokes life
some guy from the twentieth century
one of namen turners best ever roles
he learnt to play the bass just to do the film
someone poured a lotta dough into this biopic
enter one dan frankowitz :
hell im just a midwest boy
i went to college and got a degree
now i run uni-mount and para-versal films
i just loved the chirch growing up
my elder brother brad played em all the time
my mom hated em
"i dont know how you boys listen to the depressing trash" she said
dad called it music for" layabouts who dont know real music"
aunt debbie said it wasnt music at all
and she said that stephen kilby couldnt fucking sing!
ha
she was right!
but i still loved em you know
i have one ipod for each of their albums
and each day i manage to listen to at least 100 of their songs
i named my theme park in florida el parko descuidado
i own all the original locations where any album was recorded
and last night i made the winning bid
for richard ploogs heyday shirt on ebay
completing part of the west wing of my chirchyworld museum in montana
anyway
when i took over as the ceo here
we made a few huge pictures ....
pictures that defied all box office expectations
like the gormenghast movies...
they said people didnt want stuff like that
but they did!
anyway what the fuck...?
im the boss right.....!
i said i wanna make this picture
its about stephen kilby right....?
people here'd say
boss no-one out there has heard of the guy
i'd say everyone knows under the milky way right?
people wake up...it was on miami vice ferchrissakes
anyway i say bring me some stars...some real stars
tom hanks as his brother rusty
garth merenghi as his brother jack
judi dench as juicy wallop
so we get chris walken as peter copes
we get danny day lewis as martie piper-wilson
we get charlie sheen to do tim prowse
julia roberts had already jumped at the chance to play natalie dolphin
a real coup...the swedish twins were playing themselves
after the olsen twins fucked up the accents
of course nobody was quite right as kilby himself
until i saw a film with turner in it as some mad genius organist
jesus i knew hed have to be my leading man....
but the film ran into a lotta problems
turner had problems with the beard-wig
particulary the adhesive which gave him hives
but in the early scenes...
during the unguarded moment video remake
god he was a dead ringer
except that namens only 5 foot 7
and kilbys 5 11
so er...namen was looking a little short against chrissy walken there
he had a few nasty accidents fallin off his perch there too
i can tell ya...
he and julia hadda real chemistry tho
particularly the scene where the final daughter crimson kilbey is born
when the anaesthetist took off his mask
and it was ricky gervais doing the epidural...
it was a showstopper!
you see
i believed in this film to transcend kilbys status
as an appendix to a footnote
on a dusty shelf
in the museum of obscurity
theres a powerful message here
a tale of redemption
of struggle
of perseverance
of overcoming mammoth odds
and thats just while hes still in high school!
unfortunately the film went straight to video cassette
and got its premier screening in mom n pop motels
around the world simultaneously
the motel chain said
"its a great film for getting em outta the rooms in the morning"
of course i was a little devastated
but thats showbiz
hell

and one word of warning on those curtains
likely miss scarlet will make a dress & matching hand warmer of them
hope they match her big purdy eyes
Great movie, killer.
But why Charlie Sheen for Powlesy? Daniel Craig turned it down?
...but who is playing me?
B.Bon
surreal...forget david lynch directing this and let's try david cronenberg (probably spelled his surname wrong)...now THAT would be bizarre...

Bwah-ha ha! Christopher Walken..that would be a hoot. I kinda thought Jude Law as a young you..eh? Mebbe.
a truly wrathful and
banishing performance
'k, we gotta talk sequels...
The perfect and apropos actor for Steve Kilbey is Joaquin Phoenix. A ruggedly handsome and tough-looking vegan, who is very talented, and he has to battle his own similar demons. He and his late and talented brother River (who lamentably overdosed to death) were in a rock band called "Aleka's Attic". They did a great song called "Accross The Way" for an In Defense Of Animals charity compilation. A very nice family replete with virtues and vices. Who is not !!!!
Tom hanks,as Russel!thats "CRYSTAL!"....Id like to see Rick Wakeman in the cast somewhere though...sheez!can ya tell that i tried to find something to take my mind away from the "KID ness"of "Harry potter"last night?! $%#*....maybe if you get a hold of the film, you could remaster it yourself....there is so much "tacky"crap out there, that treats intelligent people like idiots.....have a beautiful day,you lovely thing!....love,love,as always, genx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
P.S. Aunt Debbie, can kiss my arse! She wouldnt knowa real and perfect soul, heart or divine voice,if it smacked her on the scone...{with all due respect...to aunt debbie....being a relative, and all} ....love gen xxx
the guy from the office and extras.
bowie sings to him "little fat man who sold his soul"
he needs to drop a few kgs but otherwise is a dead ringer for SK plus he can sing
Howabout Jared Leto as the younger Mr. Kilbey~
Johnny Depp's gotta portray Mr.Piping~Willson
Heath Ledger fer Pete
Mr. Powles.........
Tim.(there can only be one)
distant aunt Debbie,substitute for god{in her mind}.she stays distant,lest "her"people,INFLICT UPON HER,the" poor cousin" syndrome..who has time for that!?sing,baby!...from, a reluctant,yet humbly proud star
Perhaps you'll be glad to know that Dan Frankowitz does not have the Ploog Heyday shirt, nor has it ever appeared on eBay. But you're right about it being in the hands of a midwest boy.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! cute one today. thanks for the laugh.
lotza love....
Hmmnn... Daniel Day-Lewis as MWP??? Never wanted to snog him... & as a little sideline, I don't know what exactly love is, but for me a snog is a song on the lips, so a song must be a kiss! I think u know who this is. :)
I thought Julia would be a fairy{Tinkerbell},or the Fairy godmother?!
Ricky Gervais as Stephen Kilby
Check out Ricky Gervais on You Tube and look for his 80's video of his band Seona Dancing. He doesn't look like SK, he IS SK.
anon at 12.22 are you a" reluctant yet humbly proud star" in SKs movie? or Aunt Debbies life?
woooooshka!...just came back to peruse the comments.Anon above. in "aunt debbie's life,YOU WALLY!but i'll take a roll in SKs movie, definitely, anyday!

b.bon.......just read your comment from this morning!.....Rock out, with yer frock out me lady!....Im 36...and still turn it up to 11,and reminisce about a blue mitsubishi "scorpion",that we all {the girls on tour} dubbed "alvarez"...full to its speakers with velvet, paisley, and glittered everything, and pointed suede/velvet boots, incense, and the anticipation of what the weekend would bring...and life is still full of that kinda wonderment...thankfully!.....xoxoxoxolove to you and your family, bonny bon night!...gen

creature hopelessly wasted talent now decimated by drug abuse....(fuck!, this is sounding great!, tell me more!)....lots of great 'angst-ridden' stuff as we expose the seedy underbelly of stockholm....lots of cramps, pukeing, petty crime, sexual humiliation and sudden death....
plenty of filth, sqalour and loss of self worth and identity....(i'm fuckin' lovin' it man it's got EVERYTHING ! it's cheap, no fx budget, low-rent locations,it's gonna be a steal! hell the guy never even made it TOO big so there's no estate to sue us i guess? is the script all ready to go? can we start casting?)....the guy has intense 'religious episode'....gets clean....starts anew....becomes loving model dad and husband with five beutiful daughters....discovers new tallent as an artist....gains wide respect as a writer and poet....rolling stone magazine declares his group to be 'the greatest guitar band in the world'....becomes 'guru-like figure to many with his teachings on important global and personal issues....personal hero of many....

ok, but it IS true.
perhaps if you had fallen off that horse, and been trampled underfoot,
warner sistas or retro-century fox

you've spent your whole life streching credibillity too far.
too far for 'straights' at least !!!
oh, and steve,
i was enjoying the pirate yarn!
ah, well,
i guess it got 'scuppered'.
love to all,
andy L.
Jude Law as Russell definately.
GenX.,
My dear girl,
Indeed those were the days.....when a paisley shirt and a suede fringed jacket were your passport to the world.....if you were there (in Sydney) then I expect I would know you by sight.
I remember a gig at the Hopetoun Hotel, don't ask me the year, maybe 1984 or 85....a wonderful band that had a psychedelic slide show and all....I do believe they were called the Crystal Set.... I loved them...anyhoo, I rememeber we were waiting for them to start, I had put my money in the juke box to play 'Another Girl, Another Planet' and was hoping it would play all the way through before the band came on. I had my can of VB clutched tightly in my fist (I was such a slow drinker in those days that I'd always have to abandon my beverage before I could drink it all as it was either warm or flat or both). Then there was a murmur amongst the crowd (and it was a full-ish house)...there was a star in our midst.
Steve Kilbey had arrived to watch his brother play.
Is it long ago and far away...or just yesterday?
B.Bon
P.S. You forgot to mention the Lime Spiders
Russell Crowe as Steve Kilbey would be perfect.
b.bom .......let me tell ya bout a girl i know.....i drag her around, wherever i go...this little woman ,drives me ........up the looney path of childish happiness....yes twas just yesterday....wasnt it?....maybe i mighta seen you round...i was up and down the east coast ...melb,syd,bris,byron,melb,syd,bris,etc....bloody gypsys!....i come to sydney to visit my rellys and friends on occasion...if ya see me ,say hi!...as {funnily enough}i wont see you.......genx xxxxx
...and to Fraulein Isolde,
I'm going to take your depiction of me as that little French fancy as a compliment...but I can assure you she bears no resemblance to my good self, in more ways than one...!
...and the poor panther, it just doesn't bear thinking about!
Au revoir,
B.Bon
Mr. Steven John Kilbey...PAST,PRESENT and FUTURE,is a SUPERNOVA!...xxxxx
Without "Earthed", the world would be less!
Considerably less!
Dearest Isolt
I've always considered it the apogee of my ambition to make it into a french teenie mag.
And how did you get wind of that photoshoot I did with Rimbaud and Verlaine? Oooh la la! We were all so young back then...
Those "nibenous" holes still pull you in!
Since taking up weed my life has gone from just passable to fuckin' excellent!
I'm not thanking you Steve, but I am grateful!
who is kilbey now?
Where would the "Mad Turks from Istanbul" fit in?
they'd be holding your breath for someone like you... I'm guessing...
Maybe this comment page should be renamed: "GEN X's CHAT ROOM". Get a life fuckwits! Nobody gives a shit about your aunt Debbie. Oh, and Fantastic Andy=P.R.I.C.K. aka the biggest ass-kisser on this blog
Abrupt shift, change in mode...from the last several days. David Lynch should direct, the Lost Killer Highway, then who knows where or how it ends.
Wonder what Jimbo would think of Oliver Stone's cinematic creation.
Enjoyed it all, TB.

oh i needed that... thats good stuff
btw
i'd like to play myself and i'm not signing a
confidentiality agreement.
I think Terry Gilliam could do you some justice. It could start under the piano - your fathers - an ocean rolls in the back of your mind. Deep sea creatures and bustling airports and sweeping desert highways swim through your head space. Childrens laughter in the yard, while parents friends drink and smoke so elegantly. you finger the keys in your mind. a shot of your feet, rock, like a metronome, to his playing.....hmmmmm.....
anon. at 4.39 am...so who stuck a broom handle up your ass, huh...what a wanker...

it's cruel for me, you know that.
Ok, i'll just keep waiting.
Today's a lovely day, here. especially at the morning, feel so good.
Have a wonderful night.

ps - I used to live in Collins Street Surry Hills, a short walk away from the hoey ...must've rubbed shoulders with you and B.Bon several times.
Hey, did anybody watch the Live Earth concert and wonder why The fantastic and rockin Church weren't playing and the incredibly boring Wolfmother were?
xxKittyKat
I KNEW IT!GENX I KNEW IT!
Kitty Kat.. you better identify yourself...I know some of the infamous residents of Collins St circa late 80's - David Wales, Liz Cotter, Michelle McGahey, Scott Wajon etc
Stand up and be counted!
B.Bon
Was this a result of chemistry or alchemy.
Gen x that was so beautiful.I think I'm going to cry.Can't say I didn't see it comin'../M
I am a Have Fun card carrying member of the David Wales Fun club...and still have his postcard pic in a box in sydanee.....I lived in Number 21.... it was about 84 I think, 86 maybe....and yep, Liz Cotter, worked with her before she became a champion architectural photographer...
one much prefers alchemy to chemistry...which is why one loves Erskine the magician; SK, what's Erskine up to? Did he visit the galleon of poets or was he sulking in the midst of a trick gone wrong....speaking of which, melquiades, have you read Ephemeron? You must have I'm sure, but if not......you would love it!
KittyKatxxxx
wow! very bracing! gen X.
congratulations panther.

Blood Money was on Miami Vice too.
Didn't I tell you in the Extras discussion months ago that Ricky Gervais is Kilbey? You know I did. Steve in 1990 is Ricky in the Office. Yup.
Was anything off heyday on Miami Vice...?!
I watched Live Earth, and yes I was hoping any moment mr. k would walk on stage with crowded house....

^_^
Was Peter Garrett at Live Earth in Australia ! He's featured in America's E Magazine and the "word" is that he will be Secretary of The Environment if Labour wins upcoming Australian elections. I saw Midnight Oil live several times and Garrett would invariably condemn polluters, oil companies and corporate greed! As for England it appears that Gordon Brown and David Cameron are going to be very contentious. My spelling is not very GOD!
hey steve
feel like there's some kind of weird synchronicity going on here...
findhorn...ricky gervais...keep em coming!
fireseed
SK's been waiting,seems like eternity.He's been waiting waiting for you...........earthed angel x x
My vote is for Joachim Phoenix, not so much for resemblance but I do like his work. Blog posters could be hired out as extras...you know there would be plenty of scenes where SK is seeking decent vegetarian food while on tour and he would encounter the likes of Melquides trying to make him dinner, or maybe Cee could translate spanish menus and let him know if there is chicken broth in that bean soup. I could fill in as myself and be the sullen clerk at the record store trying to set up the table for signings.
Wow! so you are alive! Happy Birthday! and thank you very much! I have never thought it'll be so good!
and i really love this weird synchronicity. destroyer!
what was i going to say? it 'was' something... but thats long gone now. yea, i'm hanging round here... you've got all our cards read...
it was an especially nice lyric, but i resisted,
made good use of my time. give the timebeing a break, i mused,
i don't believe my prose is all 'that' good...
"we had just begun,, la, la,, la,,, la, la...'
ok. over n' in... from me and the rest of the wankers....
Si claro, "tiene consume de pollo la sopa de verduras??"
Cee at your ceervice
Just a wee bit twitchy for some TTB.

I loved it :-)

Have yon twills arrived?
Whoever said Kilbey is Gervais is spot on. I can't watch the Office without thinking he is going to start singing milky way
Gervais is another ignorant bastard mistaking fiction for fact
No!!!, whoever said Steve looks like that Gervais character must be effing outta their minds, looks nothing like him!! The younger Steve (I mean early eighties) reminds me of the gorgeous David Cassidy from the Partridge family, and Steve, I mean that in the nicest way!!

...the humming grew louder...it resolved itself into a monotonal drone that made the windows of the small motel vibrate...the evening sky melted into an almost unseeable magenta glow...simultaneously all of the cheap bedside clock radios came to life and started blaring to the point of blurry distortion the following melody...

OK
I've checked all the local hospitals....so we can rule out injury or illness....and there has been nothing on the news...except about some road side motel in the US where all the clock radios mysteriously started playing 'Don't Stop Till You Get Enough' by Michael Jackson all at the same time in every room...
Et je plaisante seulement tous vous les types tendus!

3 days after jumping off the edge of the Bondi baths, and just 0408 km off the Wellington coast, Nevets switches from the breast stroke to the crawl, and is making good pace.. tbc
now he's switchhed to iron butterfly,, tbc
Maybe Kilbey has realized the pointlessness of having a herd.
why are you here then?
I'm pretty sure he likes having fans actually
..Native Australian wisdom:
"It ain't that in their hearts they're bad
They can comfort you, some even try
They nurse you when you're ill of health
They bury you when you go and die
It ain't that in their hearts they're bad
They'd stick by you if they could
But that's just bullshit
People just ain't no good
People they ain't no good
People they ain't no good.."
Lost Highway Hotel.....outside, the sound of humming neon illuminating the sharp desert night. The eastern horizon was slightly bluer that the rest of the cold black sky, indicating sunrise was on its way. Inside, Tillman laced up his boots, checked his watch and thought about the drive ahead and where this destination would lead him. He never gave into superstition, but room 1313 kept pulsing through his mind. "Could this be a sign?" he extinguished his cigarette in the dirty ash tray, took one more look into the mirrored, paneled wall at his weathered and wise visage, grabbed his bags and left the door swinging in the desert breeze.......
That's very funny Dutch! Is that John Hurt when he's in Midnight Express?
It's dem old Istanbul blues..
and Jeff Goldblum as PK.. Wicked
on from melquides
...and broke into the moonwalk as he exited the hotel
not the last one either! damn!
while moonwalking down the gravel road Tillman paused, "I have a car. What the hell am I doing moonwalking?! Man, that's some good weed. Oh yeah, and I forgot to turn off the t.v."
hilarious!
