intermission

dear fiendss
the time being was absent yesterday
due to a lost internet connexion
eg whoever it is hes piggybacking off
finally got wise
and the internet round this way
is scarcer than hens teeth
ok im on now
but its coming n going
getting fainter
getting fainter
wouldnt you know it...thats how life ends
ah.....
so i may not be able to even post this blogge
in which case
how is it that youre reading it...
huh?
so i donna know whatsa going on with the net
dont someone tell me i gotta fork out for that as well now
it may be the straw that breaks the panthers back
here again
i thank profusely
every subscriber who has supported ttb
i appreciate it
and its very honourable of you lot
to chip in...even tho you didnt have to
the people who dont pay are welcome as well of course
just not quite so welcome as the others
no ha ha
thatsa justa me being a foolish being
being foolish
foolish being
ishing foolbe
anyway
nice to have you here
i was fretting to my fambley yessaday
them saying oh jus' have a dayoff
me going no no no
you dont understand
i dont have days off
thru the thick n thin
up against your well
thru rain n sleet n hailstones as big as bowlings balls
i am here
i know you need it
thats why youre fiendss
because you want your being
when you want it
and you dont wanna fucking have to wait
and then you were left cliff hanging
the being delving deeper ever deeper
shorely hay-dey storeys whirr necksed
i was about to finally tell you some thing
when i lost the thread
the internet went down
i was stranded
lowtide becalmed
in a sea of passwords i couldnt guess
signals i couldnt attract
and diagnostics i couldnt understand
fuck em all then
i did what i could
i guess im gonna have to pay
its against my (greedy) principles
i feel the world does owe me a living
or at least
the internet could continue to be free
why isnt there a rule for me
and a rule for everyone else?
so inconvenient doing it by the book
the way eye see it
is this
all tho i am not the greatest
singer
writer
musician
poet
painter
actor
blogger
who ever lived
im so much better
than loads of the useless gits
who are living it larger than moi
in fact
now take 2 minutes
to think of all the talentless
shallow
"straight"
hopeless
idiots
who are
in fact
living it larger than your beloved being
be beloved being
being beloved be
arent you angry that some
pretty insipid boyband
are raking in more shekels
than your heroic killa
or some old actress making 20 mill a pic
while your main man stands in the wilderness of cyberspace
virtual cap in hand
i know it must hurt you my people
to see me in my thousand buck falcon
while lesser luminaries cruise in lexii n beemers
i sit here in my flannelette shirt n my broken glasses
yet blokes who dont know nothing
ponce about in top line suits n ties

the twillies arrived sunday night
+ 5 other swedes from their fambley
will be living round the corner from us
in a nice house
minna looks more like uma thurman than ever
but dont say it!
elli looks like scarlet
there was a lotta noise here lassanite
we scored a few blows back against downstairs
and their insufferable doof doof doof

have been working more on solo album with timbo
its coming along nicely
very pleased
youll like it
its pretty good
im sure youll love it
and you'll say
why aint this guy livin' it large?
and there wont be no answer
thats for sure

Glad to see you're back on line now Steve, I'm sure alot of people were starting to get worried!
I don't often comment, but just wanted to get this one off my chest after reading todays comments...
So many people get endless enjoyment through ttb but for those uninteligent beings (anon. 7.46)that are so small minded and unimaginative not to appreciate what steve does, why subject everyone else to your negative crap. Honestly, there is enough bullshit in the world right now, we don't need any more.
Oh and by the way, since when did being an extremely talented musician, artist, writer etc., not classify as 'having a job'?? It's all hard work right? Surely we have to admire those who follow their passions in life. I certainly do...

Can you communicate what you think stops yous from being invited or whatever the reason is? It's got me stumped - wanna help you and the crunchies get mainstream recognition......it actually makes me pretty angry.

Really looking forward to the solo album (see not CD) and new hits.

Glad you are surrounded by your grounding off-spring - wallow in it..love it....get pissed of at the change...and love it all the same.

Ok - some of us here could afford to sling 100 bucks at the Killa, no?
Some can't, I know.
But some of us can - so how about if 20 of us hurl a $100 a-piece SK's way?
It's gotta help and it's piffle money compared to the benefit of a continuing Kilbey, yes?
So how about it?

so the twillies have finally arrived. yippee!! that should definitely boost your spirits. and it sounds like your solo album is going to be another gem.

"Path to the Anaconda"! What a great title!

Anonymous said...

I have a question and I'm only asking because I truthfully don't know. Why don't you guys bite the bullet and go out as an opening act for someone? If you guys went out with say REM...wouldn't the cost of the tour be underwritten by them? Leaving you guys to just concentrate on music? If you guys looked your best and played your best, at least half that arena every single night would go home looking to buy Church cds. In exchange for swallowing a little pride...a whole new audience would be exposed to your music. I'm only just throwing an idea out there, but wouldn't that work?

Anonymous said...

Better to send you money, I´ll buy two copies of your forthcoming album

Tea said...

Yeah, I have a band, I want to open for REM and get a lot of money, ha ha. Seems it´s very easy these days to be the opening act for a band such as REM. Come on!!!!

Anonymous said...

But REM of all people...I've seen a photo of that Mills bloke holding a copy of the first Church album, so there's none of that House Of Love-style "ooh it's coincidence, 'onest" with those blokes!

matthew said...

PS, I'm sure I will love solo album... and as always, I will ask that question too...

Cecilia said...

...now that you have an iPod you can go back to the cafe and ignore their stupid music in exchange for their free internet, as long as you buy a soy latte...of course.

I can only manage sending you what I've sent, not nearly close to $100 but then again doesn't 25 years of uninterrupted devotion qualify me for a discount?

well in my life anyway...

Let me clarify one thing please. I only mentioned REM for the sake of mentioning the name of a band. I don't care for them personally but that's just my opinion. Some people in my profession have noticed an occasional resemblance throughout the years. Sorry for not making that point more clear. There are much better bands for the Church to go out with and yes...The Church are the best without question. I saw The Church on the Starfish tour in 1988 with Peter Murphy and another band who escapes my memory. It's not like they haven't shared the bill before. I still say it's an honest question. As far as the anonymous part goes...forgot. I will fix that now. Very lively debates today. I'm enjoying the reading.

Unfortunately, it's the way of the world. Mozart didn't exactly die a rich man. Unfortunately, monetary success in the artistic world seems to have little to do with true art and everything to do with the marketing and promotion of the talentless, and the selling out of the talented.

I'm not an artistic person in any way, shape, or form. Heck, my cat can draw better than me. I couldn't write a song, play an instrument, write a verse, a poem, a story, take an amazing picture, any of it to save my life. Basically, I have nothing to contribute to the "artistic" world, so maybe I'm not the best qualified to comment on such things.

But I know that when I listen to Kilbey and The Church I feel literally carried away by the music and spritually elevated by the words. I listen to a lot of classical music and a variety of other "artists" and I just don't feel that way with other music and words as intensely and consistently as I do with Kilbey and The Church.

I know when I pull up to an intersection in my van with windows rolled down, it's the only music I never feel tempted to turn down. It's the only music my family doesn't ask me to turn down.

I know my daughter's harass me to no end over my music choices, however, the only CD they ever ask for specifically by name is ULTC.

I know the first song I listen to that my (very picky) youngest daughter ever added to her iPod was Jazz and it's the only music she wants to plug into with me when we are sitting on the swing in the back yard stargazing.

I know the CDs with Steve's art are always the ones people pick up off my desk at the office and gander and gawk at over and over and over.

I know when I read this blog I feel as if I have just taken a trip to the library and pulled an undiscovered book off the shelf. I know when the blog is not there I feel like the library is closed.

I've never been into people worship, because people often disappoint, but I know that despite all of his abilities Kilbey seems like a human being, one with tremendous successes that can't be measured monetarily and one who makes mistakes, as we all do, but who owns up to his for all to see.

So, I don't know much about art, but I do know what I like and what I need to fulfill that aspect of my life. And I know that I'm not alone in that regard.

John

Went to see Matt Finish the other nite, didn't know that Matt Moffitt had passed away in 2003. Very sad. Do you know Harry Brus, the bass player. Must say I was very impressed. (Not taking anything away from you, I get mesmerized by watching u play too).

Take care and look after that beautiful fambley of yours.

can't wait for new solo. "dabble" was an extraordinary experience. solid from "blessed one" to "time to say goodbye" was fantastic. my kids can't get enough of "the temptation of st. anthony".

Wow after one day of absence and everyone runs out of the gate scrapping.

I mean.. I know I got the blues
even in the summertime.. but dang..
some cats here really need that hug.

so lets have a lil moment of reflection, we are here in sacred communion supporting our good friend sk
cuz lord knows we cherish the day we first heard the brother sing with the rest of the churcheroz banda jamming and all of that...
lets maintain a level of respect for each other and all things..

Enough said, its great,a really good thing in a time and age where Maya is so powerful and people are bent over and on mediocrity..
I know at least I can grow old and steady.. space rockin all over this mofo ...

Cee,

I hear murmurs that Moral Kiosk is from Murmur, their opus first record. 5th track to be more exact. Accelerated post-punk Byrds.
Some spend too much time inside their moral kiosk and feel fine. I'm sorry it's always the end of the world as they know it for them.

Your soul is protecting you Steve. You wouldn't be here if you'd made milli-bucks 20 years ago. Be poor, artful and grateful.

TB - this actually worked out well for me, as I was a-travelling and had no internet either. I'm up in the Wasatch Mountains, Rocky Mtn way, no John Denver, but visiting lab testing our stuff for The Man. Nice in the mountains though, and laughing at TB's story of nicked Internet access - used to do the same but, alas, hadda pay up eventually. Staying in a place called Park City, of winter Olympic fame, quite beautiful.

See if the Twillies can cajole the hooked-up neighbor into divulging his password, especially if said neighbor has teenage son (heh-heh). Glad you're givin' it to the doof-doof bunch for a change.

Back on airplane tomorrow - headphones and iPod serving up my favorite artiste (YouKnowWho, famed ArchDruide).

Good evening Mr Kilbey, Sir.
Just got back from watching ricky & BJM. What a smashing fellow and fine player he is. He's a nice enough guy to have found a few minutes to come and to talk to me and Missus M & my eldest sprog.
Great show...really enjoyed it but, oh...any gig makes me miss you and the Chrunch even more.
Please get the solo album out quick. I'm desperate!!
love you more,

SK,
Sorry about your 'net connection issue. I hope it gets ironed out soon. I would surely go nuts without access to the web (my work, communcation and (some) play depend on it). I may be found in catatonic fetal position within two weeks ...or perhaps in a better rested, clearer state of mind.

I'm watching the Utube interview series and the one thing that interviewers bring up is the psychadelic thing. I see The Church as a spiritual thing (no pun intended, really!) Floyd is psychadelic, Madrake memorial is psychadelic......This is not to diminish, but to put it into perspective.

yeah, yeah, yea

Are you trying to tell me
For the last humpdity times
That I've been reviewing your blog
You've said that you're making a new
SOLO ALBUM?
Oh, then....why didn't you say so!
Well then, congradulations are in order.
I for one, cannot wait to hear it.
You know, I love the CHIRPS
And I have for all of this many years
That you've been enjoying us with your talents
But your solos...
How shall I say?
Dabble is still my single most favorite score I ever
I anticipate another serioius score.

BTW, those lovely new paintings...
Sorta Klee like, rather soothing.
He negotiated softer split compliments...with much homage to Aboriginal pointalists.
(Like you didn't know)
I'm off to confront my paintings.

I think that Gallery is called 'Sonoma Reserve' not sure. I'll call attention to you and Holly about more Galleries soon.

PS listening to Slowdive's 'Alison'

Hey melquides, I was doing exactly the same thing last night, having a looksee at YouTube churchy interviews, there's stuff there I remember seeing over 20 years ago!!! Did you see the one with sk and Richard, where naughty sk is casually puffing on a ciggy while the poor interviewer (Donald Sutherland) is trying to ask him "deep & serious" questions...ha ha! I remember that show called "Sounds", they had the Church on ALL the time (when sk felt like it that is!), I miss all those eighties shows we had back then:(
If you're reading this sk, you were (and still are) one sexy being (even smothered with eyeliner ha ha)....thatsa for sure!!
Love Amanda

Tim said...

Amanda I won't agree with the sexy part HA! But that interviewer was...awful
the questions were horrible..where are you playing? what are the fans like? no regard for the music more interested in the lifestyle did they have a no questions about the music rider?

and while for the eye candy value for you, amanda I get nothing but
a very good laugh which is nice.

they could have been THAT BAND that boy band we all despise because they are more machine than mind and heart and soul

...that one i saw both are doing all they can to hold the laughter in

Look forward to hearing your solo records, especialy the one with William.
Sometimes ol Sydney toun seems like such a small place.
I feel like i've lived a few lives here.
Ask young William if he remembers cracking a 007 breifcase code to a CX5M computer.
If that dosen't jog his memory mention the Love Mussell, ha ha.Worst band in Sydney history.
The singer became famous though it had nothing to do with music.
It's kind of peverse Nevets but he probably earns more than you..
Kind of drums home the point you were making in your previous blogg but hey thats life.
The most talented people i've ever known have no public profile whatsoever.

Steve,
Thanks for the e-mail toward your art vs your music. I see that you're your own artist, like no other. I for one surely don't mean any put downs if I say you're art looks like a famous artists paintings. Take it as flattery please.

Yes I am an artist, a serious one. I hope to share more about that--I recall my first art professor's comment, "You paint much like Bonnard". I said thanks, "I don't mean to." I was really going for a more Vulliard look at the time...but that was then. Now I think that's one of the greatest compliments that I ever had- that my art looked like something very stylish, a post-impressionist.

I change my mind daily about which artist I like- today, it's John Singer Sargent. I've been working on a painting for about 40 hours in the spirit of Richter and a lesser known atmospheric artist who is well versed in the science of color.

My sympathies go out to you for the naughty behavior of some of your fans. In the beginning, I thought they would all be so cool.
