hadda a soy shake w/ bananas n dates
which baby bumper also seems to dig
not feelin' that great actually
restless/angry/impatient
now i dont like myself when im like this
(muse: nor does anyone else!)
and i used to feel like this a lot
but i thought i'd "mellowed"
a strange process that happens to pot smokin
yoga doing space rocking olde hippies som moi
which means you finally learn to at least try to stop
always being a prick
tim powles is never a prick
hes so patient
hes so tolerant
he'll hang in there with ya....
i wasnt made like that
im full of pitta heat
spite
(muse: no kidding)
ambition
desire
revenge
grudges
(muse:yep)
intolerance
instant gratification is too slow for me
i cant take lessons or give em
i never learn
over n over
anger sucks me in n uses up my energy
i cant take advice neither
so dont go sendin' me all yer advice
n websites
you think some hopped up fiend like me
gonna sit readin' someones advice on the internet
my main problem is my superioty n inferioty complexes
so first of all
im better than all of ya
so why would i take yer advice
2nd of all
im worse than all of ya
im not worthy of it
i dont merely dislike the mundane
it infuriates me!
im going crazy with all these possibilities at my fingytips
the popol vuh album im listnin to
is so fuckin' obscure
the titles only come up on my ipodd in japanese
so try n track that one down all you proto space rockers
in tasmania or south dakota
courtesy of the lord of the reedy river
anyway
where was i
sometimes the blog feels like cake
which refuses to rise
a cake may refuse to rise
but never the sun
a flute like flurry emerges from the vuh
howcome they dont play these kinda songs on albanian idol?
imagine space rock idol?
could ya dig it fiends?
sk as judge jury n executioner
occaisionally we could have some other
space rock celebs...
baron brock fer sure......
mr michael moorcock....would you come on my show?
rick wright as hes the only one of the floyd still vaguely floydy
the druid from porkypine tree...absolutely
sonic boom or jason spaceman....but not at the same time
mark gardener....ok..
someone from iceland would be good
ummmm
oh mwp a true true space rock afficianado
manfred up-and-more
edgar froese
copey
you know all as special guest judges
and we could sweep the great dominions searching
for space rock acts
who are capable of invoking travel, weightlessness, the void
loneliness, bliss, eternity n infiniti
we would award the winners absolutely nuthin
but we would subject the losers to elton john
n justin timberlake
n chrissie ugly-leerer
ha ha
that reminds me
there were these books written bout hawkwind
time of the hawklords
and the villains zapped the good guys by
pointing these sonic guns which played excerpts from elton
and the carpenters
jesus i thought that was funny when i was about 20
popol vuh percolating in the corner now
frothy bubbles of synthas
ive noticed typing this blog gives me backache
theres always a fucking catch
and
and i hope im wrong
but
is that slight stiffening in my left leg n knee
the beginnings of arthur wrightus?
about this age me mum started gettin it
just when ive newly become quite a twinkle toes

i shoulda been a dancer n nnow its jus' too late
i dont think old bricklayin' types like me
are welcome down the ballet academy
those snobby bastards...
cant they have a mature entry scheme?
things are blowing off the walls in my kitchen but i cant be bothered
the talk with mr greene has made me very hungry
i put some bread in ye olde toaster
i increase voluma on ye olde i motion speakers
i now smell toast

so a buncha thousand or so
variously deranged, stoned or deluded gooseballs
spread all over this very unstinkin earth
can get a laff over their morning coffee
or a quick snigger in the public service
when the boss aint about
or a sigh for our stevie bouy
as he battles on
fighting n forging his way forward
into the final four?????????????????????????
muse im a sideshow
who started that thinkin mans osbournes thing
whos gonna film it.....?
ya wont believe it till ya see it?
ever wanted to drop in on someone elses life so so badde?
like in that mott the hoople song
i wish i was your mother...?
(so then i coulda seen you coulda beeen you as a childe)
would you like to spend tomorrow as me?
youll need a white beard
a loada kidss
a slightly stiff left legge
a slightly aching shoulder from typing this tripe
ringin ears
fadin eyesight
and a deep deep love of space rock
then off you go
smoke some dope
do a painting
stumble around in the mundane world
marvelling at it all
and cause chaos
go into banks n lose yer stuff
trip over on sidewalks
deface real estate posters
chew gumballs n drink lime sportswater
worship vishnu
slosh down goji juice
(now only 60 bux a bottle)
plan n plot n ruminate n machinate
think a thousand things at once
and remember none
except
a vague wow
thats it in a nut shell
a real nut shell
is this the next phase, interstellar commanders?
whats that...?
take my people n form a commune?
make em drink goji n red bull n jagermeister
and listen to the very un-spinal taplike hawkwinds
ah
who cares?
and what would it matter if they did?
im outta space
im outta luck
im outta time

Steven,

Sounds like you're right at home back in El Bondi with Spring approaching.

Question: Have you any interest in setting yourself up with a 4 track or digital 8 track at home and recording a new solo record at home over the course of time when the muse calls? Sort of like your old days at your place in Rose Hell. Perhaps you can't be bothered with the gear at home in your painting room, or perhaps things just get to busy on your end with family and all that. However, I was just wondering whether or not that sort of thing (writing a new record / recording at home) interests you nowadays? I'm sure many folks would love to hear you knock out that sort of a thing... Then again, what do I know?

Congratulations on the success on the tour here in the U Ess Hey.

p.s. Your bloggy is always refreshing.

Oh gee Steven, flattery will get you everywhere. Hmm, I'm not stoned, I don't think I'm deranged...I must fall into deluded gooseball category. Your capricious moods remind me too much of myself. Ugh. Well, happy father's day anyway olde tosser.

SK,
It's 8am on sunday morning here in England & being too early to be stoned I'll settle into the gooseball pigeonhole too.
One of the great things about the blog is the insights it gives into the mind of the greatest musical talent wandering/wondering the planet.
I've been looking forward to an insult or two. Bring it on!!!
A fab blog again. A real privilige to get these upclose, acoustic & intimate. Sadly peanut butter on toast has been a weekend ritual of mine for 30 years & boy does it show....
Love you more,

Dave M

I don't want this, but maybe have a break from writing this blog for a while :( if you're starting to hate us (sob) reading your daily thoughts (bigger sob). I'll really miss you, but if it makes you happier, I'm willing to suffer.

Love that you are getting Catherine Wheel. I bought into them 3 years ago when a friend copied Thunderbird and Broken Nose off Adam and Eve. I love the 'Talk Talk' sound that unofficial 5th CW member Tim Friese-Greene brings. He was the unofficial 4th and later, 3rd member of 'Talk Talk.' (It's about time he became an official somewhere.) By the way, have you ever listenend to Spirit of Eden by Talk Talk. Forever to remain in my all time top 10. Can't recommend higher.
I hate regrets, but one shameful regret is when I went to see the Smashing pumpkins last gig in the UK. They were being supported by some band called Catherine Wheel. I'd not heard of them and my friends didn't fancy it so we sat outside and had a drink. My one and only chance to see them. Make sure Rob supports you in the UK when you come back.
All the best
Stephen
PS want to listen to a Robless CW? Check out http://www.50ftmonster.com where his ex bandmates soldier on. There's a couple of demos there.

Didn`t know you were such an avid spaced out spacerocker (but it comes as no surprise, of course!). Yes, Popol Vuh were great. Hosianna Mantra is one of my favourites.
Maybe Michael Rother should be invited to the show....? I once had those H.wind novels reading them inbetween my excursions into inner space and P.Tree today is a brilliant exponent of the best of the krautspacerocktradition.
Did you ever catch Ship of Fools? A British psychedelic underground band recording two magnificent albums in the midnineties, delivering them to the world and then fading away into obscurity?
Two releases, one called: "Out There Somewhere", the other: "Close Your Eyes (Forget the World)". Music to give you goosebumps, visions and strange dreams!
Knowing so much about your musical interests make me eagerly anticipate the next Church/Kilbey release.
Great blog!

ahh, its great to be back in blogland. nearly took an OD when i read 3 weeks worth in a day to catch up. hunting down spacerock recommendations as we speak. My time stranded in that old cabin on a mountain pass in the north, waiting for helicopter evac, were filled with the choich (bought the ipod just to load it full of my choich collection) and with rob dickinson's CD (which I'm really enjoying).

Had a chance to plug the choich again in this tripe travel column i been cranking out, that one ran while I was away dodging grizzlies. Tis here, for any fiends who want to pass the plug http://www.eye.net/eye/issue/issue_08.24.06/travel/travel.php

SK,
Happy ole Hippie Dads Dayz to ya... if that is appropriate. In your blog today you referred to "your not me and I'm not you" ...what an absolute. Many would give anything to live a day/week/month/year in your skin. It may frighten them after 10 f*in seconds and they would have to claw there way out back to their life/lives. And being a spacerocker as yourself you'd know the same if you switched w/ any of us (my job kills my back!!). We are who we are. We can control instances and decisions, but ultimately life's canvas can not be erased. Just sometimes painted over to resemble another appearance. Enjoy this/that breath...that second/the toast/the kids and mate/mates...this day, hopefully tomarrow and so on. It was such a pleasure for you to recognize Mr. Wright of the real Floyd.(Listening to the original P.F creations all day today as a theme(The Wall.., musically brilliant, lyrics a little to created for radio play).
The Stones sell out because they sold out. The original (alive) members of P.F can drop their egos and rule the earth w/ no new tracks for 12-18 months. So what !!! Its not original. I've seen cover bands that play a certain amount of popular bands music better than the originals. But...here is a spacerockers dream ..."(2007)OPENING FOR (ALMOST ORIGINAL MEMBERS) PINK FLOYD...THE FOUR MATES FROM DOWN UNDER PLAYIN ELECTRIC AND ACOUSTIC SETS INCLUDING TRACKS FROM THEIR BRILLIANT RECENT CD AND CLASSICS FROM AN ERA GONE BY SIMPLY TO FAST....TICKETS ON SALE SOON...PRICE RANGE $100-500 U.S. DOLLARS SO GET THEM QUICK !!!!

I'd probably skip the opening act and watch you guys tear the F*in arena apart (and get paid deservedly well !!!)

Enjoy Life and have a Great Day !!!

Hey Steve,
Hope you have a great Pappie's Day, despite the "craziness" you are feeling. I don't know why but I get like that too, kind of similar today as a matter of fact...ah to be human. I am supposed to play tonight and all I want to really do is make my headache go away, hang out on the couch and watch something funny, not very space-rockerish I suppose. It'll shake off once I am there, as these times are too rare lately as it is. I know once the guitar is strapped and the skinner is tapping out the kinks in the new drum heads I will gel right in. I believe Mr. Green is due here as well, and now that you mention it, I could probably use some nourishment! Hmmm...but what to have...I know...Peanut Butter on toast! Wonder where that idea came from!? :) I will hold off on the vegemite though...for now. That is such an aqcuired taste. Man, I remember the first time I had that stuff...a friend from Sydney brought it to me and I put entirely way too much on , not really knowing its taste, and I thought I would vomit! Now, I know to use it sparingly. Although, my ex wife (English-used Marmite) ate it like I eat peanut butter, so go figure!

Well, I hope you have a lovely day and time with your fam. Keep on doing whatever it is you do. We love it.
Thanks for the culinary (as well as musical)inspiration!
All the best to you and ALL the space rockers of the world,
BV

Steven,

Had it not been for you and PK singing the praises of Hawkwind at the "Shriek" event in S.F., I'd still be only a proto space rocker who thought he was hip. Have since purchased Hall of the Mountain Grille, In Search of Space, and Do Re Mi etc. Wow!!! Better late than ever, I guess. I like your comments about how space is deep, and also spooky. Guess that's why I like Oophoi so much--Celestial Geometries (the theme of which is the "Face/Pyramids" on Mars) feels like you are actually there, on Cydonia. I hope you got that feeling from the discs. If you'd be interested in some similar obscure deep space/drone artists (i.e. on Oophoi's label) let me know and I'd be happy to send some examples or make recommendations. (ambnt1@msn.com)

What a scream. For all her tail shaking, Linda Perry's probably made more money from chrissie's "hits" than ole chrissie has or ever will.

Linda's the person writing a lot of the "music" the pop tarts are peddlin these days. Sort of a shame. Perry can write some damn fine music when she puts her mind to it.

i love mike moorcock stuff, he really got me into hawkwind and reading sci fi, used to devour his universe in my teens and now i'm enjoying them again, i recently read 'King of the City' which has some amazing Hawkwind references and is a pretty good story. when i had my band i stole the name 'the deep fix' as homage to Mr. M. I liked that short story as well.

i think one of the reasons you are so unique is the fact you embrace your humanity in a way other rock and rollers don't, it's reassuring to us mere mortals that our hero's and heronines are not these perfect beings that have packaged personalities and polished teeth, we are all in this together, to coin a phrase from bing bong lee.
I love reading about yr struggles with yourself, not for voyeuristic pleasure but becuase if affirms how ultimately it's the only stuggle that matters. in many ways it's the hero's journey, not the challenges themselves but how we respond to them. i am constantly striving to keep my integrety, sense of balance and connection, and shamefully i admit it's very difficult but made somewhat easier by the fact that the people all over the planet seem to share this battle within themselves. perhaps this dichotomy manifests in global conflicts and wars, you know, as above so below, i don't know....anyways,

steve, get yr goji berries from the china town, (the markets and surrounding shops) they sell them for about $20 a big bag, heat in some h20 for juice extraction, then stick in fridge or, alternativly eat raw. enjoy :)
