Glad to see Atlanta lived up to itsbilling. I drove over from Tallahassee to see the Jacksonville show and was pretty shocked to see the venue. Pretty much knew talking was going to be a bad problem since stage right was a bar and pool table.

The Atlanta show was fantastic. Very large crowd, very enthusiastic, great venue. As a recent transplant to ATL from the west coast, I was actually proud to be living in Atlanta (This isn't always the case, but this city is improving every day).
I was really impressed by the crowd - very loud and appreciative. Highlights for me were "Two Places at Once", "Easy", "Buffalo", and of course the encores. The band played great, Kilbey was a giant on the bass.

Tim here, went with my wife to see the Atlanta show, she's a big fan, I was only marginally familiar with the band. Had no idea it was an acoustic tour, wife says tinnitus involved, very sorry if that's so..nevertheless, we loved it and had a great time.
Was quite impressed; band saunters out with no introduction (seemed like bass still being tuned), very understated beginning couple of songs...
nice words in the songs,and some interesting quotes... (I know I heard a Patti Smith quote, did I hear an Aerosmith quote as well, or am I just unfamiliar with the music (...every time I look in the mirror...) (Was it 'smith' night? Did I miss a reference to the Smiths? Could have used more SK+MWP harmonies, but the few were quite good.
Liked bass, drums and MWP especially, along with the vocals. (erm, Pete and Rob were marginal to my experience, no offense)
Good rave-ups in the latter part, quite a racket for 'acoustic' music, thanks...
Appreciated heartfelt thanks for the Atlanta fans, this is a tertiary market and we appreciate in turns bands who make the (long) drive.
Just one thing...please don't say 'the south will rise again'...no matter what anybody else tells you, that has direct racist overtones and those people (who still exist here in disgracefully large numbers) need as little encouragement as possible. Some people here want creationism taught in schools, would prefer evolution not be brought up, and since you and Marty mentioned it, think global warming is an inconvenient diversion tactic for those too poor to own an SUV.
And, yes, we pull over to the right when driving slowly if we are considerate, but this is America, and as the world now knows, we don't always have to be considerate, even to ourselves.
So, on a positive note, thanks for the long and very well done show, I'll see you again, and keep on rockin' in the free world.

To anon 4:31, interesting to read comments from someone who has never seen The Church before. Glad you enjoyed the show overall. I certainy respect your opinion regarding PK (you felt he was quite marginal), but I think if you attended more shows, you would see that PK is immensely talented, just he does things in a very stoic, understated way most of the time. I love to watch MWP play, but i am also always in awe of PKs beautiful musicianship. As for Rob, well, never seen him play.

Glad to hear things are going smooth for the time being. I suspect you took a chill pill of some sorts, or perhaps relaxed with some jazz *wink and smile.
Hey, I've got an idea: when you guys have had enough of touring and putting up with all of the hassles involved, how about doing just one show, that lasts for a weekend in some central location of the US. It can be a Church Fest! You guys can play to your heart's content with us truly dedicated fans and have a few supporting musicians to fill in when you need breaks (perhaps Rob D.). There will be plenty of vegan vendors, and it can be located near plush hotels or perhaps campsites for econo-travlers. It will be in the fall or spring when the weather is agreeable and easy to travel in. All of us fiends would make a min-vacation out of it and there would be no yaking during any of your stage time. Yeah, I'm dreaming, but would that not be cool?
I hope your bad experiences here in the US are not enough to make you not come back. If so, I will see you in Austrailia one day (right now another dream)!

My little sis, when I was home for a visit and had no car (living in England for a few years), she drove me to a show in Knoxville in the late '80s. She is not interested in music (I'm surrounded by these people), but did it for me. She knows what good music IS, my father had quite eclectic tastes and we heard good stuff from the cradle on up. It just isn't in her life unless she's in the car. Never has been.
For this show she chose to stand stage left and watch Peter up close. SHE NEVER MOVED THE REST OF THE SHOW. Afterwards, on the way home, she was kind of excited (for her), and she said something to the effect of "So that's what a REAL guitar player does?" Gotta remember - '80s. She talked about how gorgeous it all sounded. Of course she thought Peter was very pretty, but a comment or two about that and it was back to how much she enjoyed watching him play, working his craft. "How do people PLAY like that?" It was a light bulb going off that said "this is how it's done." I was pretty thrilled for her.
Later, she even bought From The Well. That was like an Amish woman buying a Bose sound system. I wish she'd stayed excited over the years. Didn't happen. Put Peter totally brought her in and made her a believer in the power of guitar for a little while. S'true.
Peter: we talked about that show recently, and current ones, and I told her you're still pretty, too.

great blogge today. Really hanging to cu guys live again - last time was at Settlers Tavern, Margaret River WA and was wrapped!
Just some news from back home - Australind (near Bunbury WA where I live) was hit by a tornadoe Sunday night - 7 houses totalled and about 50 damaged. WA Premier declared "State of Natural Disaster". No-one killed and only a few very minor injuries - amazing given the damage done.
You get used to hearing about these things in the US but in WA? Don't anyone tell me that the global weather patterns are not changing rapidly.

Hmmm... I like Smoochgirl's idea. A Churchfest. You would book some other bands, of course. Maybe some fan bands, even. Peter could give a guitar workshop. Marty could do a solo act. Get Jeff Cain. Of course Rob D. would be welcome... you get the idea. Bring your brothers. Bring your whole family! You could RELAX while other acts are going on. I'm imagining something like our music festivals we have in the Sierras, only with some non-camping options. And a pool, of course - better yet, a lake. Maybe at a conference center/resort type place. I'm telling ya, this just might work.

I can second the addiction comment. I've kept what started as an online diary -- before 'blogging' was the thing to do -- since I was 17 (8 years or so now) and I've NEVER read another blog even worth glancing at twice... until I got here. I'm hooked.

Glad Atlanta was so good, but I must say I am really proud of you for giving your all at the Myrtle Beach show under really tough circumstances.
And I agree with Heather's comment yesterday about the tour hitting different cities and areas. I was willing and able to go pretty much anywhere in the eastern half of the US to see you, but I know many people were able to see you guys for the first time in years -- even decades -- because you have been willing to take the risk of going to different areas. I think that is wonderful.

Listening to Sometime Anywhere... many great tracks. One criteria for successful poetry / art I guess is form matching content. Methinks Authority is such a gem - captures so well a state of mind, a subtlety of consciousness. Top lyrics. Another fave is busineswoman as a flight of the imagination and I like Marty's annunciations on the "civilised gentleman" theme and the aforesaids proposed transformation for a bit later in the evening.

There was definitely a connection here. The band was in the zone and many in the audience were there too. Thanks for the transportation. Thanks for signing my poster. Thanks for the show. Thanks for 26 years of great music. Thanks to the greatest "rock" band in the world. It was worth the 4-hour drive and a lot more. I don't know how you keep doing it, but if you keep touring I'll keep coming to see you.

EXCELLENT show! We stoode down front, mesmerized, hypnotized, tantalized.....so glad we Atlantanians made the tour itenerary once again. Yes, Variety Playhouse is the best venue in town, in the best neighbourhood too. Tim was on fire; laughed when his drumsticks flew into splinters on the encore, MWP played with intensity and PK's touches so well-placed and lyrical as always. Hey, I would have even enjoyed hearing Metropolis again, despite the shouter's short-term memory thingie, though Marty telling him "you are uninvited like the clouds" got a good laugh. Also nice for you to get validated, even for a thumb-n'-forefinger smidgen as "this cool", by your 15-yr olde daughter for UTMW being "on The O.C." Great to hear Two Places At Once; long a fave of mine. Woulda come back to say "hello" but figgered ya mighta been tired and road-weary (met you a coupla times...Memphis, Atlanta, NYC...).
Hope Norfolk goes well, and (what town in PA?) too. Come back to our burg soon; "we welcome you."

Was just recalling the first time I saw the band here, wassa the Starfish tour, at Center Stage on West Peachtree. Had the earlier albums, musta missed the Heyday tour (where the hell was I?), anyway....Mr. Bauhaus/Sisters of Murphy opening....then the most amazing band came on doing almost all of Starfish - unforgettable (Pete in leather britches then, Marty sporting leather biker jacket, SK looking debonair and sartorial in dark sportcoat). Center Stage again for Gold Afternoon - before the band came on, CNN was on the monitors out in the Lobby, surreal night scenes of Baghdad and bombing from Gulf Wars I/Bush the First, was flickering in the dark.....so strange. Lights went down, the surreal strains of "Pharoah" rise as the silky voice fills the hall "late at night when I'm lying in bed, I got to say a prayer for my daily bread".....ah, memories for this olde Atlantan, so sharp and so ingrained in the recesses where I wander often to pick them up for reinspection and sustenance, and put them back for later. Thanks for adding to the shelf for this olde druide (turned 52 myself this year).

Thank you to all of the Church for making the trip from Savannah to Atlanta worthwhile. Saying "hi" backstage was a little daunting; it's been a while since I've felt like a starstruck groupie: how do you take advantage of the opportunity to show grattitude to a quarter-century long, loyal companion that has never met you before? Apparently with jazz cigarettes and over the top merchandise purchases.
You gave it all. We (Jonah, Josh and Jeff) were priviledged to take it. The words just aren't there, even now...
