I always hated Duran Duran too. I went to the same Comprehensive hell-hole as Nick Rhodes. I was never the most talented musician but my the band I was in at school was a bit doomed by the comparisons.
Oh to be in Budapest with all the lucky guys and goulashes.

A friend of mine, who lives in Budapest saw the Hives play there, and the singer opened the show by addressing the crowd "Hello Budapest! Are you 'Hungary' for some Rock & Roll!" -- The moral: Always open with a joke...or was it don't open with a joke? Have a good show!

Read your interview in the Australian Times where you described how you paid £30,000k to get on the Duran Duran tour. It was 1982. I queued for 6 hours to get my bloody tickets for your support show at the Birmingham Odeon on that tour (it's on the back of Temperature Drop in,,,,, I think).
Then you cancelled, you bugger.
I sold the tickets for face value. Had already seen you in London...was it The Venue?(Remember Fighter Pilot & not recognising it?). Didn't see you again 'til 91. Makes the current tours SO effing valuable Steve.

Jazz Cigarette? I'm interested in the origin of this term. It is a term I used to use frequently. I guess I didn't have to think that hard when I invented it as it seemed an obvious moniker for 'le jois' - you like that one, non?
We(e)'d put on the Coltrane and have a Jazz Cigarette. Or drive around Kingston or Manuka in our friend's mum's Citroen D Special listening to Lionel Hampton for vibes - and have a Jazz Cigarette. So if anyone can be bothered providing information about the origin of the term Jazz Cigarette, can they please do so. I realise it is very naughty to use someone else's blog for such purposes, I apologise and will not do it again, promise.

Budapest show is now over.
How did it go? Very well I guess.
How many people were there? Well, just over 700 according to the door counter. Thats not bad, right?
I mean, first time ever in Budapest.
The crowd loved it. Was alot of love for The Church in the air.
Was a long day, full of interviews, lunches, more interviews, and finally the gig.
After the gig, seemed whole lot of people stopped and thanked me, I mean, REALLY thanked me for organizing the show.
What did they play? Well, something along the lines of...
Block, All I know, Metropolis, Grind (with special guest piano player Zoltan Takacs!), Tomorrow, A new season, 0408, 2places, Tristesse, UTMW, Reptile, dont Look Back, Day 5, Easy, Unguarded Moment, Invisible.
Whole band was in very good spirits, and I dare say they enjoyed their Hungarian adventure. It was to see such a reasonably large and appreciative audience.
Could be so much more to report, but its past 4am now, and I need some sleep.
Although I am happy, because there was a television quality professional film made of the concert!
Lastly, big thanks to local band Heaven Street Seven. They were immensely helpful in making this happen!
