purple auroras, pale scarlets and blue eves

extra early good morning fiendss
yessaday i run jlk out to his helicopter
and he throws me the keys to the karmic ferrari
and the password that letsa me in
(nutmeg)
to the incredible serene and convenient
kh heady quarters
the chrome the glass the gold records
the secretary birds
the garish wallpaper
and gratuitous displays of welf
jesus
how many did that irish guy sell in asia?
wow
i struggled for this opulence
the secos are all in early
working on khs next strike against
the "straight" music biz
i dont know if you mind me saying it
herr directeur
but its getting hard to tell
whos on whos side here
i mean, did ya really need a sauna and a steamroom
especially as its been erected
im the old sk private office
now gone
so the legions of euro and jap bizness men
can be pampered
while kh skims another cool mill
but for what?
this?
no you silly girls i do not want another
soy hot chocolate with gelatine free marshwiggles
no thank you
yes the kh muesli
soaked in cloudy fresh pressed pomegranate juice
was superb
but next time go easy on the acai
and the wheat grass was a little stringy...
should see the kitchen here
whats jlk running?
a bohemian record co
or a bloomin cordon bleu cuisine noveau?
now leave me alone miss secretary
i have some bloggin to take care of
it wont write itself
if i sit here for my mani and pedi cure
yes my cuticles are slightly ...askew
i admit
but please
ah
i banish them
here in this office
i look out to see the pacific ocean
grey and low key this rainy foggy morning
the "straights" head off to their imaginary werk
to keep the great machine stoked up
on statistics memos n boozy lunches
the beautiful surfers ride the waves
regardless of anything else
flat or mountainous
theyre cruising the briny face of the deep
where real monsters loom
well i been listening to three
amazing australian records
and if you fiendss worship me
as much as you should
you should be ordering all the records by
decoder ring
who are an instrumental band with sometimes vox
absolutely beautiful stuff
intricate pulsating atmospheric
guitars
symphonic pointillistic
i got all their records
everyone is EXCELLENT
but especially recommend somersault

bluebottle kiss new album
its a double
melodic savage wild great lyrics
surprising inspiring energetic
urgent
i think all their records are good
but this new one is GREAT!
elk w/ i liljestrom
hey this is so goode!
talk about euro romantic dark weird
intelligent strange
shes on hi fi mikes album as well
the lyrics are so goode too
fiends check these records out
i really dont think youd be disappointed
at all in any of em
au contraire
they are all fuckin amazin

well more on the woes of fatherhood
as ya know
where i last left ya
aurora been diagnosed with strep throat
gets her meddy-cin
oh no doc
she dont likey that one
she swells up
goes all purple
and her tongue nearly chokes her
she'll be right
says laconic aussie doc
then
baby bouncer
no longer bouncing
in fact shes lolling in her bounce chair
like a limp stick of broccoli
eyes droopin' n runnin'
she looks up kinda sadly
yes dad i got it too
next ms evie starr n i
go out to get some dinner
at lauries
(you should try their tempeh burger
with satay n guac)
by the time we get there
ms esk has thrown in the towel
im sick dad
i dont want anything
so there they are
3 sick pigeons in a row
guzzling tylenol
chewing echinacea
and thermometers protruding
from mouths
taking their tenpacha
as eve says
oh dear
just what ya want for school holidaze
a buncha sick n restless ninnies
stuck inside
and wreaking havoc
one day inside n evies climbin the walls
2 days n shes demolishing em

any way
do kids n rock n roll really mix?
hmmm...thats what i thought

funny reading all the reviews for ultc
seems like some were gonna write the same thing
whatever the fuck the record was actually like
oblique lyrics
dreamy guitars
etc
blah
etc
blah
others seem genuinely surprised by it
and can see we made a great leep forward
i must say that mr fan-borin's review
on hotelwombat made this olde rocker misty
im glad you like it
and if he bloodywell likes it
then its good enuff for me
but did ya notice that toggle action IS
derived from interlock off jammed
just as youd predicted
you clever little man
wow dude
you write so well in english
id fuckin LOVE to read it in yer mother tongue

how do people get so good in another language?
im serious here
i would faint if most aussie reviewers
could toss phrases around
like our teutonic friend over here

anyway
anyway
im working on some paintings
have finished my small bit in the movie
(did i tell ya bout the stuff they were
snorting in the party sequence? ha!)
im going over to newt town today
to maybe help davey c w/ his dark movie
(max castle, where are you?)
many things in motion
many things have come to a standstill(ion)
time will reveal all
elli getting better n better
i love you all
good n bad
happy n sad
girl n lad

ULTCed myself yesterday. Very happy.

Weird to hear The Church have another go at "pop", but it's been 20 years, so I guess it was time.

It probably won't get on the radio in the states, but it will get extremely heavy rotation in my household. In the end, that's what really matters (to me).

So excited - 'ultc' is on its way to me now. Will not wait for b-day to open - will rip open CD and listen with wild abandon, like I was young again!

Steve - I don't have kids, but I work with 5 year olds...they're ALWAYS getting sick - and getting me sick. Just got over walking pneumonia. Immune system not used to them yet. I have to hand it to you, the Mrs., E & M's mum Karin and ALL parents...kids are beeeeeutiful (as mine will write in class) but I do get to come home to cats. You guys do the hard work. Hang in there...can't wait to see some more paintings as well. You're about 13 years older than I am and seem to have about 50% more energy. Are my vitamins not workin'? The yoga not helping? What's your secret!?

went to the shop yesterday to get ultc and the shop was shut...missed it by 5 minutes...bastards!! then had some dinner with a friend and walking home in the rain past this old pub and from within was the sounds of band doing their thang...mmm...familiar sounds me thought to myself...and there it was, a rather atrocious rendition of utmw...but it felt for a minute like I was in some sort of bizarre church parallel universe...

Wow. I'm addicted. Your blogge is always the highlight of my day. Thanks for keeping us all up to date on the happenings of a certain Mr. Kilbey.

Love to all (especially Elektra as she continues to heal).

ULTC is surprising. Wonderful as well...

...yes, school holidaze are pretty full-on, what with my 3 girls too,

Got my copy yesterday. Every Church album I buy is so different and unique and surprising, but one thing always stays the same: the excitement I feel when I listen to it all the way through for the first time. It's like drugs. Thanks!!

Hey Sk,
I'm back from the land of the long white uninvited cloud.
Can certainly relate to kids & the dreaded lurrrgie.
It was passed around the family whilst I was there - first my niece, then my daughter , then me , another niece & then poor mum.
It's worse when you're only visiting somewhere for a short time , you cant lie down.
You still have to play Chrrch songs with ur mates , take the daughter lugeing , waterskiing on the blue lake , do Rotorua.
Nice place , shame about the weather.
& to top it all off I left my ULTC at my brothers place as one night I was trying to convert 3 x 15 somethin nieces from Wolfmother to youse guys.
I tell one thing tho, one day I went fishing on the ocean with ma bro & we caught loads of baby thresher sharks about 300 mm long( thrown back in of course) - mustve hit on a breeding patch.
Fuck were those little buggers strong - like holding on to Arnolds bicep when getting the hook out.

Ciao,

Dutch Pierre

Just received ULTC in the mail - I'm listening to it now for the first time!! It sounds totally different than what I expected!!

Sorry to hear all of the kids are sick!!

Yes , the "studio". Is it still a recording studio capturing musical expressions of unbridled love and enthusiasm for life or self pampering rubber room for screaming your materialistic, love-less hexually frustrated bungs out to the walls (and a sorry mike) KNOWING that other likewise well paid frustrated plebs will finance more such rubbish?
The news that Pickled-crack sold out must of hurt, god fuck 'em.
KH sounds like they got the diet down pat, don't know about the hot-tub though?? Bacteria- ville. Is that for the Aus Crawl reformation film clip???
Na, You guys have a fair better sort of "hi-life"!!
Your'e a very cool man indeed.
Love reading about your life, it's a cerebral-nerve perve.

I’m sure this isn’t what you had in mind but a man of your experience would know that recommendations beget recommendations...I’m currently in love with Liz Phair’s Somebody’s Miracle (can data do high rotation? i bought the “album” at the ITunes store and i’ve got to say that not having anything physical for my money has given me a feeling of emptiness not likely to be assuaged by the grainy little jpeg that masquerades as an album cover). Look, she’s prone to some guitar that contains a few strands of Joan Jett/Suzie Quattro DNA that are just a bit too rockin’ for my blood but as ever she saves the whole thing and more with the sweet discord of her voice and the unfailingly unique perspective of her lyrics and metre. Table for One is a flippin gem and demands to be played repeatedly at one sitting.

As for the written word, that other Great Man has redeemed himself after the disappointment of My Life As A Fake - Theft by Peter Carey is sublime and is so far shaping as a masterpiece every bit as good as Illywhacker or Oscar and Lucinda (though i’m only half-way through). And call me shallow, but in stark contrast to my musical purchase that may be measured in bytes, the physical vehicle for his prose is one of the most satisfying volumes i’ve ever had the pleasure of rapping my knuckles upon. so resonant. and it was on special at corporate monster books for 35 bucks! Oops, did i just stoke the machine?

has anyone noticed that copies of Tin Mine are going for $200plus on ebay? that’ll fix the fuck who was carping here some time back about the lack of “new stuff” on the disc.

I’d better track down your recommendations forthwith – i’ve been exceedingly grateful for Lamb’s Gabriel for some time now.

Oh well, now that’s out of my system i’ll recede into another month or two of silence.

p.s. will you fellows get on with another KH podcast? this time without little brother’s stage bafflement (or ripped fugue, whichever it was), i’d really like to hear what he has to say.

No love from the postman as of yet, *sigh* maybe MWP will be delivering it in person...yeah, that's gotta be it.
Patience was never a virtue of mine.

Love and warm blue healing waves to the bebecitas!

This blog was very Bret Easton Ellis today (seriously kinda like Lunar Park).
I rented somersault a couple of days ago, so a bit freaky that you mentioned it, considering its been out for a while and I hadn't heard of it. The movie was good, although my little ears did prick up, when I heard the soundtrack (Decoder Ring) a bit sigur ros-y, pretty.
Sounds like you've got your hands full, how do you do it.
Anyways
hope all your girls get better soon

scene...aktor (shoulders stooped), exits Qantas club lounge, hat and sunglasses don his head...it is night time. He is met by super-efficient PA.

"Your final boarding call has been announced", she states trying to meet his eyes. [aktor...very cagey, avoiding all eye contact]

"Kids have been keeping you up at night, huh?" she asks, "You look exhausted".

"No. I'm not exhausted, my botox injections got excited and Dr George fucked up again. Now I gotta wear these freaking sunglasses and hat so I'm not mistaken for Bert Newton", he snarls.

"Okay...well...have a good trip. Hope your cameo goes well..." she smiles.

Aktor boards plane bound for India and is greeted by hospitable air steward "Welcome Mr. Newton, your seat is ready".

Aktor...to exasperated and disgusted to speak...makes way up steps to number 1 class. Tired, fed up, huffed, bluffed, handcuffed, slumps into cosy seat.

Plane takes off...vegie meal arrives...a lovely ensemble of baby vegetables (with a hint of spice) arranged on plate with silverwear. "Would you like a drink with that, sir?". No response...aktor sleeping.

Aktor, head tilted backwards starts to snore disturbing neighbouring occupants. Bert Newton gets up from seat in front of Aktor and with great stealth places two baby carrots - greenery intact - gently on Aktor's upper lip (lips have been pumped and plumped keeping carrots nicely in place) - one under each nostril.

Aktor continues to snore gently. Bert Newton sits down with a wry smile. Counts 13 snores and suddendly turns around in his seat and pokes his head up. He shouts "HEY...AREN'T YOU..." The sentence is not finished before Aktor wakes in fright with a deep breath and snorts the carrots up his nose. "What the fuck?" The green fluffy bits of carrot dangle from his nostrils as he is confronted by the head of the laughing perpetrator. In a daze he thinks "this is a fucking nightmare and I'm staring into the mirror at the man I've become".

Aktor kicks seat in front of him, extracts the carrots from his nose...returns to slumber remembering that monsters are only in your imagination - there is nothing to be scared of.

Dont get too comfortable in the KH studio Steve! You have to suffer for your art they say! I think some musicians got this wrong-way-around and we suffer for theirs :)

VERY relieved to hear Elektra's on the mend but not good about her aussie sisters - my neverfail recipe for the throat bug: equal shots of chopped garlic, honey, squeeze of lemon and a few tablespoons of warm water and ... well, okay, for the munchkins version, omit the alcohol or just take it yourself.

Hey SK got ULTC yesterday. The Church's sound has really matured!though a couple tracks remind me of Seance for some reason? I was in Vegas recently up top of the Stratosphere(huge "spaceneedle" looking thing really high up) and they were cranking UTMW over the sound system, made for a happy, sureal few minutes.Hope your kids get better soon andI hope to see you guys in the USA soon.......KB

Only 4 or 5 listens to ULTC so far, so I can't really make serious comments... first impressions... wow, it's clean! Forget Yourself was deliciously dark and murky to me (loved it). This one strikes me as much brighter and cleaner... still digesting it tho'... waiting for it to open up it's mysterious and esoteric folds and ensare me...

Have listened to ULTC a few times now. A little different than I expected. Overall, a welcome poppy surprise. In a perfect world, "Unified Field" would be a hit single. And I like the variety in the rest of the songs.

Can't wait to see the crunch when y'all tour the deep South!

Oh no, all three girls sick at once! Must be a wild time at chez Kilbey. I feel for you. Aurora's reaction to her medicine had to have been particularly scary -- I know it would have freaked me out.

There were a few years when I was a kid that I used to get sick every single holiday, but much to my chagrin always got over it in time to go back to school on time. Bleh! That sucked big time.

Excellent to hear of Elektra's continued progress. Continued good wishes for her and Miranda.

Still love ULTC. :-)

pss good morning! I've had ULTC for quite some time now and right now Space Needle's presently my 'put on repeat' song and Unified Field the least. Song To Go has moved up a big notch. This reminds me of Forget Yourself where months down the track I was picking up new things in the music that dont always hit you as your ears tend to tune into the bits that they first like to hear.
