Did you scare her with your silvery beard and earring??

Oh wait - she's a real rock star in her own right! You must have felt so inferior...

Were they suitably humble in your presence?

They should have been.

People have been ragging everything to do with the ceremony, with the exception of The Church and 'wots her head?'

Read the reviews, fantastic job.

The Church, MSO, Australian Ballet plus one of the great contemporary songs of the last 20 years...adds up to the singularly most artful moment in what was an astoundingly unimaginative and banal primary school end-of-year pageant...class ALWAYS shines through

Oh yes, and Cat Empire were relegated to their rightful position...as providers of background music...

If so be sure to add, “more face time on camera” as a non-negotiable clause in that contract, k?

Steve,

I'm listening to the CD of the Games Opening Ceremony - I can't believe that it was in Myer's at 9.00am Thursday! And the band even scored a photo in it! Bad luck about Channel 9's 1.5 seconds of the back of the band's heads! Anyway,I had to buy it like all Church fans should - just to hear the band's performance again. Wow! So proud that you guys got the gig - UTMW and that ballet/biker dance was the highlight of the whole night. You must surely know that UTMW now has iconic status! As has the band - the local media all reported favourably on The Church and MSO combining for an "unforgettable version of UTMW". I agree, it came together really well - it surprised me and lifted my spirits! I liked Marty's comments in The Age: "It was like the ultimate video clip....as if the whole performance was designed for that song". It certainly bettered the old clip with the girl and the picture frame! I can take now some pride in pointing out my fave band to my workmates and my students once again! Oh by the way, I have used your lyrics occasionally when I teach poetry and your music will soon be booming over the school's P.A. because I've just become our school's unofficial music director (in other words, I choose the music that leads in to every class - oh the power! By hook or crook, the Church WILL be heard by a new generation!)Just thought you'd like to know that! Catch you at the Manchester Lane gig - good reading in you blog, even though I'd take marks off for spelling!

Geoff the English Teacher (devoted Church follower since 1980 - I pretty much own everything you have put out there!)

P.S. Please don't ask me for royalties for playing your music at school - it's a 'pov' state school and I don't get paid enough (just enough to occasionally lash out for the odd Church CD or gig!)!!!!!

when the camera passed marty the thought came to me,
'Is marty thinking " wish we were doing 'Queen of England'" from one of his early efforts or was he?
The song you did was huge.
As karen used to sing, i was taken by surprise.
Well done

Dearest Lost Unkle,
At the thyme of the opening ceremony which I auto pressed cheeze VHS record ... I thought what the hell I may as well leave the album I was playing on .. which was TEH MONKS-BLACK MONK TIME (1966)
...Speed-crazed GIs stationed in Germany take rock'n'roll down a truly mental tunnel of primal, repetitive mechanized beats...

You guys were like a stream of bat's piss last night at the opening ceremnony. That is to say you illuminated the dark night with your radiance (or some other half-remembered Black Adder quote)

Seriously though, apart from not particularly needing to hear THAT song again, I thought it was quite wonderful in it's way. In the UK the tv commentary was hilarious, pure Alana Partridge: (do it in his voice) 'Here we are under a southern sky with a pas de deux with a difference as the Australian Ballet perform with Church their classic song Under The Milky Way' - I loved that.
