good morning you rascals
whats cooking?
nut cutlets and cardboard sauce?
how are you anyway?
i was talking about the connection
between everything
but i know
sometimes its so hard to see it
why cant i feel it
everything like pearls on a string
everything part of everything
you just gotta apply the principles
took me almost 50 years to even start
seeing that there were principles
let alone what they are
and how to apply em
but they exist
if you can manipulate them with your will
anything is possible
yes baby
thats right
anything
you can alter maya
or you could just be able to throw out
an amazing poptune whenever ya wanted
(just like that guy ya know....)
crowley said there are but 2 paths fiendss
to the left we have magic
to the right we have yoga
now this aint magic
in its tawdry or even fairy tale sense
this a magick that sees the universe conforming to your will
the healers
the witches
the wise women
the forest hermits
people who can weild their wills
charge stones or wood with energy
to be discharged at their will
israel regardie proposes a sytem for adepts
in which they set themselves a little task
(say...not to say the word "the" all day)
if you transgress yer rule
you whip out a penknife
and cut yer arm till you remember
painful gruesome
but an effective way of acheiving self discipline
the main prerequisite
you cant re order the very fabric of "reality"
if you aint gotta grip on yerself
harry houdini
would lie underwater in a bath of ice
hold his breath for 5 minutes
he had complete control of himself and the situation
and of course the yoga im talking of
isnt just a buncha people stretching
in yonder community hall
this is union
union with what?
well, whaddya got?
yerself
(will)
outside yerself
(god)
take any path says krishna
i'll be there to meet ya
so yoga and magic
the sciences of the great unseen connection
the big machine, the multiverse
whatever
dont get lost on them terms
i did
i could define 6 different nirvanas
but i had no clue at all
as to their "real" natures
still dont
but im not trying to define em anymore
as i said these principles are art and music intrinsically
you catch fleeting glimpses of em
in the real goode stuff
when you hear or see
something so obviously goode
you slap yerself and say
why didnt i do that?
you know that feeling
someones put those elusive principles to work
the up and down pressure on a flowing brush
a gentle slur on a fretboard
tiny things
that must be observed closely
executed with delicate love
but boldly and with will
will
will
will
have you got will
have you got a will
will you have will
i dunno
get a fucking grip on yerself
i say this to me
and to you
dont kill anything
dont eat the carcasses of wretched miserable beasts
it will come down on you
hard
how could it not??
dont appeal to me baybee
for clemency
it aint in my hands
if you gonna eat that fowl thing
if you gonna pick thru that cows cadaver
you gonna have to take on all that
adrenaline
uric acid
already decaying flesh
bad bad karma
all the drugs the 'FARMER' pumped it up with
all the fear and anxiety that permeated its whole life and death
well my friend
if you got big enuff shoulders
help yerselves to yer meat
but its gonna hold you down
like a heavy lump of death in yer guts
cos thats what it is
i dont fucking care who i offended here
no correspondense will be entered into
and
PLEASE..
dont bother writin in with that load of olde utter tripe
about the screaming carrots
use yer head or get thyself fucked
all the rest
i love you as usual
love
me

I read during my lunch break that today consisted of fowl chili. I'm pretty sure the turkey died from old age and I managed to locate an excerpt from his will, "When I enter the clearing at the end of the path, I want the thing that eats what remains of my former self to be larger than a worm". Always happy to oblige.
but im not trying to define em anymore
Thank you.
One day I found myself in a similar experience and realized that sometimes words are the enemy. The act of defining, analyzing and compartmentalizing can leach the magic out of a spiritual experience - it's a bit like dissecting an animal. You end up with various organs you can name, classify, and position but it's no longer a living creature and never will be again.
It can be disturbing to people who have always taken great joy in writing.
Morning Steve.
This is my fave post so far so i need to consider my response as opposed to my usual, 'first thing that enters my head, to fingers' technique.
The movement of Magick and mysticism made a quantum leap in the last 20 years from Regardies and Crowley's systems, which take the Eastern disiplines into great consideration towards a more scientific approach. Now that science is pretty much emmersed in post-newtownian/ einstien, ideas there is not much difference between science and magick if one has a brain hardwired to comprehend it. (meat fucks up the neural net totally)
So Robert Wilson, Peter Caroll and Chris Hyatt who are probably the cosmic decendants of Crowley, leary and Alan Watts maybe worth checking out. I'm happy to give you some stuff if yr intrested.
Strangly enough all this 'Magick' is now embraced by quantum physicists and philosophers, the east meets the west.
I once used that system of imprinting you mentioned except i substituded 'the' for 'i' and the blade for a rubber band around my wrist. Still effective, despite the non mutilation.
Just as a post script, surfing a wave is the perfect way to harmonize both magickian and mystic, wave and particle, will and god, it's out there riding that wave reality's fabric is altered but it takes an incredible amount of disipline to keep the mind clear, the will focused and the heart open, that's why yoga is such good training.
May the force be with you....
Wow, I'm wondering if my dear ol' Anti-Steve has found this blog.
Nah - believe it or not, he came around to the Church. Not without name-calling and heated denials, of course.
Hey, the Screaming Carrots were OK. I mean, obviously their old stuff was better than their new stuff...
Ouch. Ouch for me and the little guy.

...just because it's called magick it doesn't mean its easy...
I always have my rose quartz close at hand.
SOOOOOO aggressive and single minded - SOOOOO peaceful and understanding - SOOOOO compassionate and caring .... damaged soul of the tormentors ........... find peace in the simple things .......... learn grow love ............
kilbey, you must never have had a steak that was cooked just right. it's just a fucking cow. do you think they give a shit about us?
real nice sk, tell your friends and fans of all ages that eat meat theyre fucked and you don't love 'em. you are without a doubt a class act
Why so hard on U2 - a bunch of guys who play music - Bono has always said - a band that they are a band who started out with 3 cords - their music is about passion - many of the bands songs are anti war and the need for the world "to be as one" - there is no need to be so elitists, aggressive and arrogant about this band or any other - if one does not like a bands music just say so and perhaps why - - this is in relation to some reactions in comments section of this blog
Bono shows a great sense of passion in his efforts to advocate for people in 3rd world countries - he talks about injustice and raises awareness about debts that can never be repaid and how these countries resources are plundered in the name of economics - he is an influencial person - its great to see someone with his profile do this -
there is also a great series of photos produced by he and his wife when they spent time with families in African Villages -
if veganism is a religion, then you're just another fundamentalist - like we need anymore of those. you're a great artist. you should rise above this shit.
Oh fukn Oh Oh Oh,
why are humans so keen to get stuck into each other ...
to the anonymous comment above:

STEP 2 - fully digest wot u've read properly
STEP 3 - make ur comment if u understood steps 1 & 2
And above all - SMILE
Must be that time of the month for some people

to all those admonishing our sage for expressing just one of his many passions: "move away from the blog", so to speak. you're making me wanna avoid the Comments forum. he doesn't ask you to be here so show a little grace (or fuck off).
and for all those who hold forth on a regular basis, you should get yourselves your own bloggies...no really, get your own fucking blog that I personally will never visit.
have you bloated hippies never heard of vitriol and vituperation as an art form? personally i enjoy the negative, there's no point pretending it aint there.

I've tried to explain little inklings of what you said yesterday, and again what you said today was a beautiful addition. It's like you've read my mind in different words. I especially love essays on beauty.
One essence of how things effect everything is when your closest people die, yet you know their dust in still suspended all around.
Presently making Jambalaya- I'll add some Okra, blackeyed peas, edame, celery. To be honest Steve, sometimes I go in for the 3 esses: salmon, sea bass, swordfish. The Neptune in you just pointed his fork at me...So, if les cruidites and les fruites have a soul, what's left to eat? MOLD maybe? I like yoghurt, but common...yeah, go freak 'em selves.
Good 'ol Dad influenced me to love the Hindu culture ever since I loved cartoons depicting them when I was a child. Daddy-o was in total agreement with their culture, but he did say that cows were here to serve humans, so we should eat them. I'm very dismayed that my dear Hindu boyfriend and much of his family (the males) are addicted to Prime Rib (sorry to offend thee). Of all things, the most unhealthy cut! gag! And he's always complaining of high cholesteral- he's just way too young for that! He feels guilty too- he knows it's WRONG and does a pretty good job of trying to quit. Anyway, red meat is very bad, a real killer. I think my dad had a weak ticker, but he ate the red meat like a fiend and died of a heart-attack at a very young 50y/o.
Taking off to the 1st meeting place in America for witches soon, also the home of Dabble. Just a short visit, I dunno if I'll have time to go to the little wicken shop on main again. A friend who is somewhat inept in the subject said that 'witches' ate a form of LSD. It was the mold that grew on their wheat, and they didn't know. So people thought they acted kinda strange. I wouldnae, wasn't there.
OOH, gotta get to it, kick rocks, role: 3 8x10 complete painted sketches due at the stroke of midnight!
Of course I love ya!
Laurie
which bit about if you eat meat get thyself fucked did i misread?
Without wanting to contribute to any tension within this here comments section i do think that all peoples who eat cows should look at the enviromental damage that their addiction is causing, let alone the damage to their brains, as evidenced. Meat is indeed murder but unfortunatly it's going to be genocide as well.
The biggest threat on the planet is deforestation which only occurs so that your food has something to eat before you eat it. Oh the irony!
There's another angle that should be considered, the industry of meat, you ever killed a cow, stripped it of it's skin, gutted it, chopped it up and eaten it, if you have then i respect your decision. But chances are you get it from the butchers all wrapped in plastic, nice and clean, guilt free, for the moment.
mmm, do i smell tension in the air... :)
Jeez, I was thinking about commenting then I see this polarized vomit all over the place.
SK does a handy job of proving
a) Inciting a riot is fun and easy
b) Open minded philosophers are the most close minded of all
c) He is a jackass of comsic proportions
Oh, and by the way, you boot licking fucks out there have indeed convinced me that I forced myself to start thinking "the Great Machine" was a good song the way a raped prisoner would begin convincing himself sodomy felt nice to keep from going mad.
I think if you look at nature/ecology you can see the connection and relationship between all living things.
Interesting comments on the human will - I still can't even clear my head of thoughts while meditating!!

I've been meaning to tell you I hear The Church about 1/day at RP, an itunes station. I don't mean to offend Celia- what is channel 29? I'd like to tune in one day.
But who's left? Bowie- still makes cool tunes. Really, I think he does Cap'n Mission. I didn't care for 'let's dance' much either. Well, Peter Gabriel isn't a bad choice- I turn up the volume til my ears blead when RP plays him. I like his new things- nice lyrics of course; and the world things- when's Marty going to get on board? I saw P. Gabriel the other nite during the opening ceramonies for the Olympics. Thank you Italians for having the good taste not to invite a politically charged grammy sweepin' band. I thought Peter sang alright- maybe a little nervous.
I love to read and soak in the energy radiating from your mind and onto the screen. This blog is like your lyrics - miles deep.
Thank you from an always inspired Australian.

Hiya Steve. Seems you've really hit a nerve today. Uncomfortable truths often bring harsh, nasty responses. And for many, maybe even most, of us that's exactly what your comments about meat are -- uncomfortable truths. But you're right...if you think about it, it's really vile. And I do think about it, and I'm working on it (yeah, yeah, I shouldn't just be working on it, but old habits, even vile ones, die hard). I feel better, in every way, without meat.
Your blog entries are always good food for thought, and anyone offended by what you say should probably think long and hard about just why he/she is so offended. I appreciate your comments, even if they sometimes make me uncomfortable.
And to Dutch Pierre. Darling, I'm sure many, maybe even most of the cranky anonymous posters are male, so they don't even have that excuse. ;-)
I don't know, I thought it was funny. If you can't have a sense of humour, what do you have left?

It seems black and white untill you consider the ecosystems wiped out to grow soybeans and other crops.
Vegetarians also don't consider the vast tracts of land only fit for a few grazing animals.
Still our system of abortiors are akin to concentration camps for animals.

Love Muddy
Man cannot live on bread alone!
But man if you've got bread, you wont be alone!
the problem i've always had with vegans is the arrogance. i was born and raised a buddhist, and there was a period of 4 or 5 years where i didn't eat meat - but then there were special buddhist teachings and rituals in which eating meat is required, the reason being that the bad karma involved in eating meat (which, of course, you didn't kill yourself) is far less of a barrier to enlightenment than the arrogance involved in abstaining - i.e., thinking it's dirty and revolting, and feeling yourself superior to others, and so on. and really, you can see this in sk's posts - not eating meat sure hasn't reduced his stress level or anger when it comes to dealing with music business types, european backpackers, or hearing bad music on the radio.
also, the way vegetables are harvested these days, it's almost impossible to get proper nutrition being a vegan, unless you have your own garden or whatnot. even if you only eat the expensive organic vegs (which i personally can't afford because i just spent half my grocery budget on a certain cd ep + airmail shipping from australia...) - they're supposedly free of chemicals, but they were still harvested several weeks before they ripen, so that they can be transported to the stores. most of the nutrients in vegetables develop in the last couple days before being fully ripe, thus anything you buy in stores only has a fraction of the nutrition one needs for optimal health.
as far as bad karma goes, it's impossible to avoid. your own immune system kills microbes by the millions, and they're more sentient than carrots. i feel that eating meat involves far less bad karma than paying taxes, considering they are used by our governments to kill and spread misery around the world. which is why i place higher priority on finding legal ways to avoid taxes as much as possible, rather than worry about my own personal diet. and how about levels of bad karma? the bigger the animal, the more meat, and thus less death - eating beef instead of chicken or fish means that fewer animals are killed, and thus less karmic impact. which is why i ate the whale meat i was served when my band toured norway - and i'll be damned if it wasn't delightfully tasty!
Why would you want to traumatise and destroy another conscious living creature when there are a multitude of healthy, non-violent, environmentally friendly alternatives available? What make us human is our capacity to observe, develop understanding and modify of our own behaviours through the choices we make with our intellect and empathy. The paths we tread along every day present us with endless opportunities to use that human intellect and empathy, but if we don’t use them what makes us human?
Domination still seems to be on the menu. And those poor eskimos are going to hell cause they can't grow nothing there on the ice!
Lamb Chop anyone? OOPs sorry...wrong Blogg
What about the Cabbages?
I have a solution..
I think veganism is very noble, but the thing that always gets me is the gelatin! A life without gummy bears is a sad one. Plus stupid anons, obviously we're here to read his opinions and such, not just stuff about his career, as such is the nature of blogs.
yeah but the ice will be gone soon because we cut down the amazon to grow beef!
steve, i'm your biggest fan - literally - i weigh 600 pounds and can't leave my house because the front door's too small. and i owe it all to you. see, 15 years ago, i bought the 'goldfish' vhs on arista, and was so moved when you talked about the chicken quiche running around a barnyard plucking at maggots, that i became a vegan, eating nothing but high-carb, high-starch rice and whatnot. and so i gained 400 pounds over the next 15 years. exercise? i tried it - went jogging with my walkman every day. but then 'MATS' came out. with that in my walkman, my sprint soon became a slow amble, then a lazy stumble and finally, by the time the title track would come on, i'd be sitting reflectively on a patch of grass wishing it would rain. anyway, i'm thinking that an all-heroin diet might be just the thing to trim down. i'll keep you posted...
The context in which Steve writes about the screaming carrots make me laugh to no end. I'm enjoying this episode! right eek, the anons defending meat. hih.
^Above, I knew the day would come when someone would write a farcical take. I was thinking of doing it myself- how I'm a type x diabetic and had a seizure from eating too many carbs! I'm not really all that, but oh to be the faithful follower and change my doc perscribed diet. my, this alternative thinkin' is getting way to serious.
Gotta go to my high tech 'job'- really, it's an occupation, a career. The one that I can bring home with me, take on vacation, etc. The computer is such a great gizmo.
my deare manne,
i have seen you wear leather boots.

One more thing (we are so prolific today!)
DP:
You assume too much, my caution.
If it were that time of the month, so to speak, you would find posts regarding cravings. Cravings for chips, crisps, sweets, heating pads, foot rubs, sleep, compassion, empathy, peace, love and understanding.
Funny what draws our focus and triggers a response.
CPE
PS: Celia Cruz is singing Pila Pilandera for all of us. Appreciate it, or don't, ni fu, ni fa.
In a nutrition class the instructor pointed out that beyond our years of physically growing we don't really need much protein at all (as in the argument often made), but what got to me more was when she said that meat is the only food that will stick to your insides for years. Still though, she wasn't a vegetarian.
A tip to anonymous: to avoid paying taxes, don't make much money. It's worked like a charm for me for a decade. :-) (but never fear, I always have enough for my Church/Church related addictions)
And another point on the meat...I figure if I can't stand to even watch (let alone do) what is required to bring it to me, then I have no business eating it.
Laurie, antenna some evening...I've always enjoyed talking to you.
...I'm not a vegetarian either. I am as vegetarian as I can be. I think everyone should be as vegetarian as they can be. That's the ideal. Move towards no meat. There are a lot of arrogant vegans, as someone above mentioned, but none of us can help finding reasons to judge each other from time to time.
BTW blog commenter - Buddha died from bad mushrooms, not pork as someone listed. In the event that history has re-written the event - he died eating pork then - so take that as a point and it's own lesson. :)

Toda esta charla me esta dando hambre!

Hey muddy do some research old son, it takes a lot more land and energy to put a steak on your plate than a block of tofu. “Cattle and other livestock consume over 70% of all the grain produced in the United States. Millions of acres of land in poor, non-industrialized countries are being used solely for grain production for European livestock consumption.” And other enlightened facts at http://www.earthsave.org/
Hologram of Veal -- touche!

All the REALLY witty (anonymous and sometimes onymous SK eer)comments are made by "one and the same", once known as heliopolis.
You're all so genuine, how could Steve not love each and everyone?
Sure EEK, I've been known to chat in Antenna from time to time. It's my pleasure to talk with you there as well- always a interesting with good humor you are.

Finally the score.
Now that was fun wasn’t it?
Yeah, these kind of contraversial topics are great for the ratings. 72 comments. Fox are interested.
Fucking anonymous coward gits begone too :)Who needs the blog when we got the circus here.
Would it make those who somehow think leaving a comment anonymously is cowardly feel better if we gave ourselves names. Well, let's just say I'm John; no, Paul. No, George, no Ringo. Is that better? Everything cleared up. We have names. We are no longer cowards. I reckon Buddha would would've commented anonymously.
I totally agree with U dear Steve

Isn't it Rob Thomas's birthday?
DP,
Tell me it's not true- he and RT!! The most ravenous fans on earth are getting anxious. The band. The band. Look at this crowd!!
I'm so jealous right now.
rob thomas’s security will be on the look out for crazed brickies
if Rob Thomas cut SK off in traffic, would SK eat him in a fit of fury?
Seeing how RT is an overipe tomatoe- NO! Although he'd probably like to scold him for shameful moozik.
Ouch .. that hurt.

i love the great machine, its a brilliant piece of music and songwriting but surprisingly i have never thought about it in the context of sodomy or rape. This is possibly becuase i don't intoxicate my blood or brain with the same kinds of chemicals you do. There may be a way out for you from the obvious self imposed hell that you live in, if you are brave enough to take it. Abstain from all animal products for a year, see if that helps. It may be to late, it may not. One can only try, in the spirit of adventure and self exploration.
Its a quantum universe my friend.
Can I have my drum sticks back please
